All This Time Lyrics
I understood this song a little differently than what seems to be the majority opinion here but here's what I thought:
He's in a relationship with someone but is just realizing that he should be with someone else. The other person was waiting for him all along and while he didn't know it, he was actually waiting for her too. Now that he realizes she's the one for him, he's going to do whatever it takes to be with her, as shown by the lines "all these words can't waste them on another", which means he's going to end the relationship with his current girlfriend (and therefore not waste his words and time on her anymore now that he knows she's not who he is supposed to be with), and also the line "straight in a straight line running back to you", which means he overlooked his true love when he had his first chance to be with her; but he is now going to be with her with no more interuptions because he can finally see clearly that she is his true love.
beautiful song - feel it is fairly self explanatory. The relationship has had to endure time and distance separation but the singer is finally heading back - and this song shows his devotion.
At first I thought the line 'Got all these words, can't waste them on another' meant that they didn't need to speak, as in they didn't need to waste words on each other to convey emotion, but looking at the later lyrics and listening to the way he sings the line I think it's more about reaffirming that there isn't anyone else.
The line 'You say I'm lucky to love something that loves me' makes me think of the first album track 'Made for you' which to me conveys how it feels to have thousands of fans of your music - in this song the singer recognises that he should perhaps feel lucky to have all that love from an audience, but on tour ('wherever I roam' 'don't know the city') that love doesn't comfort him - he is only thinking of getting back to the person he is singing the song to.
Yesss...I agree! But instead of the audience, the person he is singing to, is the person he loves. Maybe they truly love eachother which is why they wait and "striaght in a straight line run back to you."

Actually, I have to disagree with the "got all these words, can't waste them on another" explanation above me, just because of the word choice "another." He's not saying, we don't need words, but we don't need to waste the words we should be saying to each other to other people. That's why it's not "can't waste them on EACH OTHER" or "can't waste them on ONE another." It's another (person). The last stanza proves this one: "got all this love, can't waste it on another." Following the logic of them not needing to speak, it would also imply them not need to love.
Anyway, my two cents.
The first part of this song sets the mood of the song: It's the end of the year and he's decided he's gonna make it up to her for being away.
The second part, the chorus, is pretty self explanatory: They belong together, and it's time to be there for her as she patiently waits for him despite the longing.
In the third part, "you say i'm lucky to love something that loves me, but i dont...as I could be wherever I roam," could mean different things, but to me "you" is a third party saying "hey you're lucky to be famous where everyone loves you" but he doesn't feel the same way because he's not with her, when he could be.
I think it's about a guy who has been looking everywhere for love, but the person he was meant to be with was right there the whole time, (maybe a friend), but he didn't see. Then he realizes that he needs to be with her, and he doesnt care how far it will be, he's "straight in a straight line running back to you." and the part that says "we've got all these words can't waste them on another" means that they shouldn't waste words like " i love you" on anyone else but eachother.
It reminds me of american pie 2, where Jim is trying to get Nadia to like him with help from michelle, but in the end Jim realizes that the one he really likes is Michelle.
That's probably not even close to what onerepublic was thinking, but whatever....good song!
agree with bigfishlittlepond.. its like start giving all the love and caring to each other.. and no one else
♥
This song is beautiful. It's pretty self-explanatory in most parts, it's all about how he loves someone so much. Even though being famous is great, nothing compares to their love. He's truly devoted and so in love, I can't stop listening to this song.
This line is incorrect: "But I don't as I could be wherever I roam"
Should be: "But I'm torn as I could be wherever I roam"
the first line is: six on the second hand, two new years resolutions.
I have to say I don't really think I understand the meaning of six on the second hand though :p
"six on the second hand" means the number six is on the second hand of a clock "Six on the second hand till new year's resolutions" indicates that it's before midnight on new years so if the second hand is pointing to six then I imagine he is starting the song telling his woman, it's 11:30PM on December 31st and he is going home to see her, straight in a straight line :)

P.S. They have that word wrong here^^, they say "till new year's revolutions" ..but it is resolutions.
