Catapult Lyrics

Both sides, in softly came the growl from both sides
And if his whisper splits the mist, just think of what he's capable of with his kiss
Nice try, you cannot turn away but nice try
Turned your legs to little building blocks, and with his index finger flicks you on your socks

I go high pitched, he'll talk and make your voice sound high pitched
Dread to think if he got you on your own, and whispered in your ear in that baritone
It's the same stone, his heart was cut out of the same stone
That they used to carve his jaw, its impossible not to feel inferior.

And he could catapult you back to your daddy or into any hissing misery
And he will tell you how the day after a triumph feels as hollow after the day of tragedy
He'll extinguish any chance of escape when he slaps you on your arse or kisses your nape
And he's leaving without saying bye

And you will queue up to listen to him pissin
And hang around to watch some poor girl blub
And then they chase him down the avenue incessantly pestering him to let 'em join the club
He knows how to put a cork in the fuss and just how to shut up, the charming ones of us
And I've seen him, talking to your lady friend

There's a dust track waiting for betrayal
Where he'll teach you all the bits they've missed

Nice try, you cannot turn away but nice try
Nice try, you cannot turn away but nice try
Nice try, you cannot turn away but nice try
Nice try, you cannot turn away but nice try
You cannot turn away

first time i heard this i loved it =D i get the impression from it tht its about a guy who plays around with the girl, but she is in total denial of how much she loves him she doesnt see it, and when she realises that he does it he turns on the charm again and she comes running back to him. is the ending pointing out that he cheats on her? "And I've seen him, talking to your lady friend" "There's a dust track waiting for betrayal" < then she tries to get away because she knows hes bad but she cant and has to accept maybe what hes doing , GOD ITS AN AMAZING SONG THIS <3

the man he is talking about is obviously emotionless and does not care for other people's emotions.

'"It's the same stone, his heart was cut out of the same stone That they used to carve his jaw, its impossible not to feel inferior." his heart is like stone cold as is his jaw because he says things that make you feel like shit

" ill go high pitched, he'll talk and make your voice sound high pitched" hell make you feel inferior and frightened so your voice goes high pitched

the whole "he will tell you how...

I believe this creative song speaks to the topic of love. It is not easy letting go when one is in love, providing that person is of the committed type (or possibly should-be-committed type:). Sadly, the song may also speak to a person treating love as a game that s/he plays on others...stringing her along while it's convenient. In the end (and there's always an end when games are played), everyone gets hurt. That's love...when not embraced and nurtured. Excellent band...brought to me by someone who appears so arrogant, yet who's a real SENSITIVE softie, regardless of his insistence that he is not. LOL.

eugh, typo. i meant monkeys, of course.

oh and i almost forgot to interpret, haha. but the meaning is pretty clear. this song is about a player/womanizer, experienced heartbreaker.

the first paragraph i first thought of it as the person trying to end this unhealthy relationship but the growling suggests sex. so they're enjoying each other's company. alex describes him as a strong man ((haha, chuck norris... no ignore the parentheses)) able to split the mist with his whisper. the whisper could be during sex or just when seducing the girl; either that or he's go a foul breathe but i'd go for the former. the girl tries to get rid of him but it's too late, hence "nice try" and so on. she plays with fire and flirts, but he goes further (is the building blocks thing meant as spread or just something weak? i don't know, but anyway he's in control of her body)

second, then i go high pitch (i as in the person, alex often writes about characters so it doesn't necessarily mean me as in alex turner) (possibly turner in this case though): the person compares themselves with this seemingly strong man with a cold heart/heart of stone and jaw, and feels inferior. then it's possibly the protagonist talking to a friend/someone they cares about saying they hope they never end up alone with just him, cus bad things could happen to her if they did end up alone.

then the part with the catapulting means he can get rid of you easily without any warning, and make you weep just like those other girls before you. he will tell you seems like the catapulter bragging to other men: "And he will tell you how the day after a triumph feels as hollow after the day of tragedy He'll extinguish any chance of escape when he slaps you on your arse or kisses your nape " once you've gotten involved with him you'll just end up being sad/depressed afterwards

the line about "queuing up to watch him piss" and "watching some poor girl blub" means that this/these person(s) (i feel it's from different views here) are/is so obsessed/in awe/infatuated with this man (i'm guessing it's a man and not a boy with all that strength and the emphasis on daddy making the girl sound like a little girl) that they'd do anything to see them do the most disgusting, cruel or detestable, mean things and they look up to them (hence following them around and wanting to join the club). the narrator ads a warning: "and i've seen him talking to your lady friend" = be careful, i've seen this scummy man talking to your girlfriend. (if it was to a girl he was addressing he'd just say your friend and not lady friend, and same with a guy)

(i'm trying to guess); then the bridge is saying how this mentor will teach you what the apprentices before you weren't able to learn (he'll teach you all the bits they've missed). i'm not too sure about the dust track yet... that's exciting. maybe dust represents something old, so maybe an old path? not sure. and the betrayal path neither... maybe it's the apprentice outshining the master... so this would be the twist. in the end the catapulter will end up getting what he gave to people, will be betrayed

then the last is not a warning anymore but an observation. you've gotten involved, it's too late, you're doomed.

very good...still unsure on the first line "Both sides, in softly came the growl from both sides" i think this could mean how his ex girlfriends who are growling at him because he broke there heart. Both sides of his ears he hears growling, maybe wrong but not sure:/

No, I think it's insinuating that there was attraction from both parties. The girl, and the guy.

Seems like it could be about the same person in Brianstorm, similar sort of theme.

The start sounds similar to a Last Shadow Puppets song, Separate and Ever Deadly

I think the fact that hes said "in softly came the growl..." makes the growl seem sexual rather than hateful, but not necessarily sexual intercourse. Like women from both sides are expressing their lust for him, or even one sides the women expressin their lust and the other side (both sides) is the men feeling inferior? perhaps?

The guy, in short, is a dick. And he's a dick to a girl that actually likes him a lot. She has feelings for him, so she can't leave him, even though he treats her like garbage at times.

I can see her actually sleeping with him, because she believes if she does, he will like her more. But all he can think about is how he just got laid, and pays no attention to her feelings. She could feel used by him, and he could care less. He's cold-hearted like that, hence "his heart was cut out of the same stone that they used to carve his jaw, its impossible not to feel inferior." That feeling of inferiority is what catapults her into hissing misery. She feels high when he acts like he's paying her attention, then feels disgustingly low when he pushes her aside, like a broken toy.

Then when she's on the verge of coming to the realization that he's really not a good person for her, he turns on the charm, and she's back in the palm of his hands. All he has to do is touch her, kiss her, talk to her...And she's his all over again. That's extinguishing her chance of escape.

"Both sides, in softly came the growl from both sides," I think means the way he lures her in. He's friggin' sex on legs, but he is bad.

There's a TV show called 'The Vampire Diaries' and the character of Damon could very well be the subject of this song. Everything that the man in this song has done to the woman, the Damon character has done to the women on that show. It's like this song was written about him, lol.

I disagree about the Damon thing. Although Damon is somewhat of a womaniser, and a bit of a bad person. There's always a hint of him having a softer side. He's hurting women because a woman hurt him, and you get to see that in vampire diaries. He's a victim of love not the villain. In Catapult I can see some resemblance to Damon, but I don't think the song is totally like him. Damon can control women with a power he has. Although (he could control me with just his charm lol)

This song has brilliant lyrics, first of all.

I agree with bueller84, about a girl who tries not love a man with intense charm. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot leave him, even when she sees him talking to other women.

LOL. "talking" ....I love the band. If only I loved just the band. The song gets on my nerves.

"Intense charm"... I scoff at that one.

Kind of agree with thirdnevillebrother, in that this seems like an updated brianstorm with better lyrics, (not to diss brianstorm, one of my top 10 by them) and shows a lot of growth. This song features some of their best lyrics and I've heard everything by them so thats saying a lot. Amazing that this is a b-side, I like it better than everything on humbug and SIAS
