Sheets Lyrics

Remove us from the scene of the crime
I can't help myself to just fill my mind
They roll their eyes, pull our elbows
I forget our love was so hopeful

I promise I won't linger long
I promise I won't push my face up against your clothes
Or the stupid sheets

I deserve a stay, a second thought
I put your head on straight, tied my tourniquet
You want the marrying type, a commitment
Can't help myself for feeding off it

I promise I won't linger long
I promise I won't push my face up against your clothes
Or the stupid sheets

I promise I won't linger long
I promise I won't push my face up against your clothes
Or the stupid sheets

It's the heart attack that you feel,
It's the heart attack that you feel,
It's the heart attack that you feel,
(That you feel, that you feel)
It's the heart attack that you feel,
(That you feel, that you feel)
It's the heart attack that you feel,
(That you feel, that you feel)
It's the heart attack that you feel,
(That you feel, that you feel)

I promise I won't linger long
I promise I won't push my face up against your clothes
I won't linger long
I promise I won't push my face up against your clothes
Or the stupid sheets

Just give me the key
I watch your things like I watch your face

It's the heart attack that you feel
It's a crying shame not to spend the night
You look your age but you don't act the type
You don't act the type
You don't act the type

It's the heart attack that you feel
(That you feel, that you feel)
It's the heart attack that you feel,
(That you feel, that you feel)
It's the heart attack that you feel,
(That you feel, that you feel)
It's the heart attack that you feel,
(That you feel, that you feel)

does anyone know where this song came from? I know it's a Sainthood b-side but how was it leaked? Where does it fit with the rest of Sainthood?

no one really knows aha.

I dont know if it was leaked before but it was released with the 2010 summer tour EP :D

hmm.. tegan mentioned how sara wrote a number of songs for sainthood from different perspectives, such as their parents and whatnot, so at first i assumed it was kind of about sara and emy or.. just sara and a girlfriend [because it doesn't necessarily have to be emy] anyway, umm i guess it could be from her mum or dad's point of view and their divorce, BUT of course idk for sure. good song though! one of my favourites for sure!

there are a few minor things that i hear differently, but i'm by no means positive about it...

also, two very small points that make little difference... but it often sounds like she's saying "or YOUR stupid sheets" and "it's A heart attack that you feel".

i really love this song, by the way. for some reason, i always like the part where she says: "you look your age but you don't act the type. you don't act the type. you don't act the type."

i agree with you on the correction on "I can't help myself, DETAILS FILL MY MIND" and it totes sounds like she's saying 'your'

oh and also, "you look your age but you don't act the type. you don't act the type." is freakin' genius! :D

just want to add.. "I promise I won't linger long I promise I won't push my face up against your clothes I won't linger long I promise I won't push my face up against your clothes Or the stupid sheets" is actually "I promise I won't linger long I promise I won't push my face up against your clothes I won't linger long I won't push my face up against your clothes Or the stupid sheets"

i love this song and just by some of the words/lyrics it's kinda obvious sara is a little obbsessed. "i promise i won't push my face up against your clothes or the stupid sheets" "i want your things like i want your face"

Actually it sounds to me like she's breaking up with her. She's promising herself that she won't get sentimental after they've broken up. She talks quite a bit about her and Emy breaking up, and feeling like it should have worked and they couldn't explain why it was falling apart: Hence the "I forget our love was so hopeful." The "You want the marrying type, a commitment, Can't help myself for feeding off it" sounds like she was leading her on making her think that it would last forever. She pretty much talks about this exact same thing on the...

i think i recall reading somewhere (or it's entirely possible that i made it up) that this is actually more of a Tegan song... though Sara sings it?? or maybe they wrote it together. or maybe not.

Sainthood is the only record of Tegan and Sara's that had to grow on me a bit before I could really start to appricate it. When I first downloaded this record I was unaware that there was a deluxe version with four other songs including: Sheets, Midnight, Wrists, and Light up. So I didn't get those songs until a few months after the record was released.

Needless to say this is why it took a while for it to grow on me, these songs make all of the other ones make sense, with out them the record feels imcomplete.

anyhow, I think that Brokenwrist's post was very insightful, I actually didn't think about Sara refereing to her parent's divorce with this song.

I think that there are two major themes in this record

1.) Sara's inner conflict with settling down with a companion, a compaion that wants more from Sara than she is possibly willing to give --- or in this case give up.

what? is it ten years now that they have been touring ? how many long lasting relationships can one have while traveling the world? Tegan and Sara are extremley busy having a careers, obviously.

2.) Deciding their next move. I don't know about anybody else, but do you get the feeling that they are gettting ready to take a break? I don't think that they will ever stop wrting music I just think that they have sacrificed more than any of us could possibly grasp to live their dreams.

on the track someday it says,"The crowd's not worth this, and love's not worthless".

I think Sainthood embodys that struggle to decide to keep on going or to settle down, along with the under tones of their issues from growing up with parents that were divorced, ect.

I think that this song is about Sara having to comproimse with a compainon, and (i'm assuming) like so many times before, the absense of that comprise turns people off, like a warning that there is no definate future with Sara because of her career.

"Just give me the key I watch your things like I watch your face"

Key to appartment?

the slow decay of someone collecting their things with out announcing it, getting ready to leave.

Maybe Sara know it, and is trying to get someone to believe in there love?

blah blah blah I'm done now
