Beliefs Lyrics
What is this whispered thief?
Is it a lie? Is it a lie?
Does fabrication begin at belief?
Who steals my years to keep all to themselves?
Is it only just the ground we stand open?
Is it only just the ground we stand upon?
Is it only just the ground we stand upon?
I've asked you, yet heard no reply.
Is it only just the ground we stand upon?
Will I just soak into this earth when I die?
Have I fallen before I finished?
Who answers my questions when ears do not listen?
When silence speaks in volumes.
And I have heard no reply, heard no reply.
This doubt that clouds what I perceive as truth,
the unnerving sense that there is nothing left.
An illogical view where purpose is gone.
Who wills theses groundless conceptions?
Find faith in life,
in whatever will keep you breathing.
Find faith in life,
in whatever will keep you believing
Whatever will keep you believing that we
We are not meaningless. We are not meaningless.
Retain what you have learned because love is an endless wonder.
It's a never-ending knowledge,
this is our only solution.
I believe in me
I believe in you
And I believe that we are not meaningless.
(In whatever will keep you believing we are not meaningless.)

"I believe in me I believe in you And I believe that we are not meaningless."
Some of the most powerful lyrics i've ever heard. I love those.
I'm thinking he means questioning faith in religion, but to believe in life and that if nothing else there is some meaning for us all
Read/listen through it again keeping ^ in mind, it lines up pretty well
I agree, but I also believe they are saying that it doesn't matter what you believe, but to believe in whatever will help you find meaning in life.

I like this.. Remember, though, that the band is mixed with Christians and Atheists, therefore , what Kyle is singing is that whatever you believe in and gives you purpose, to follow, and that we all have a meaning.

Woo the 1st one! But anyways I think the song means he is trying to talk to ppl but no one is listening to him. Then he turns it and say find faith In life so I think that means he is tryin to say don't give up on life if everyone else gave up on u. I rly don't understand wat he is trying to say.
it sounds like a person who is trying to tell someone not to give up, that if you have faith you can make it through anything, and that there is a purpose to everything

Just to let you know, We Came As Romans are not religious what so ever. I know the guys.
You don't have to be religious to believe there is more to life than living random lives and then dying.

hay, since you know them can you ask them why they named their We Came As Romans? Hehe

The song is just a statement that it is better to believe in something than believing in nothing at all. The last verse "In whatever will keep you believing we are not meaningless", reflects the diversity of the band by their beliefs. 3 of the 5 members of the band are Christians, including Dave Stephens. The other 2 are pretty quiet about their beliefs except for the fact that they aren't Christian.
For me, I can see the song as someone questioning their faith and being disillusioned with what they've believed all their lives (their religion), only to realize they no longer hold the same view. They are angry with how they've been raised to believe what they do ('who steals my years to keep it to themselves' - parents and others forcing them to believe what they do) because it affects their entire worldveiw ('is it only just the ground we stand upon?'). They then come to the conclusion that, at least, they are not meaningless, even if they no longer believe what they did.
