Blame It On the Changes Lyrics

I lay down, I cant sleep
My mind drums on repeat
I stare at the ceiling from my side
I reach out you're right there
But you're lost in the details
I wait for the end of a long night

You can blame it on the changes
I can take it any way it is
Just got lost but we both found
we need this more than ever can
you take it can we save it
sink our teeth in tear away at it
can we hold out can you hold on
cuz I need you more than you know now

we play like we don’t know
we both lie but we don’t show
that something is changing between us
we start out in one lane the same road
the same name but something we cant see divides us

you can blame it on the changes
I can take it any way it is
we just got lost but we both found
we need this more than ever
can you take it can we save it
sink our teeth in tear away at it
can we hold out can we hold on
cuz I need you more than you know now

cus I need you more than you know now (x2)

don’t run away cuz I need you more than ever now (repeated)

you can blame it on the changes
I can take it any way it is
we just got lost but we both found
we need this more than ever
can you take it can we save it
sink our teeth in tear away at it
can we hold out can we hold on
cuz I need you more than ever,
cuz I need you more than you know now

this sounds like a song about a couple finding out that they are pregnant, and dealing with the fact that the "changes" are something that will make them need each other for ever

My Interpretation

To me, the song resembles a couple that has finally realized that even though they have been together for so long...the path, or their love life's, have grown in different directions and though they both realize that the same feeling is not there as they first met, they both need each other.

This song reminds me of my ex, when she graduated from college she went through alot of changes with what she wanted to do with her life...work, family, me, she made choices and I hope she made the right ones but it was tough being with her when they were going on.

I think it's about a relationship with both people changing and both of them going on different roads. They still have feelings for each other but are asking themselves if they should save their relationship or go on a break. The narrator (or singer) feels that they can ride out whatever phase they are going through and they have to stick together in order to do so.

It's about being with someone that you know you could love, and they are such a comfort to you. But you always have it in your mind that it won't really work out, that you aren't right for eachother. Both of your lives are changing and your lives are like two seperate worlds, and maybe the relationship is doomed to be over, but you still cling to that comfort and want it to work out. They keep lying at pretending everything is fine, and they're sick of it, but they still need eachother.

Such a lovely song. They are amazing writers.
