Saint Maria represents something the singer is chasing after and longing for...could be a girl or a goal or a dream or even drugs. His journey after this entity has made him loose confidence in himself ("As the sun begins to set, I know that can't make it on my own"). He is so obsessed with it he feels like it is torturing him ("And the voodoo that you bring is chasing me through my dreams You got me looking over my shoulder all day long")

But soon he realizes that he doesn't need this entity, because the entity isn't as great as it sounds. All that glitters is not gold.

"She's got black angels to carry me away, so take me away" refers to how its damaging to him, and that he wants it all to end, since it seems inevitable at this point.
