i think its about these 2 people just starting to fall for each other. it seems find, then she leaves him. he doesnt feel the same, he thought she felt the same way, but thats not the case, it was brief.

I don't know ... I think the best way to summarise this is "It's complicated". The whole song just sounds like a big confusion of emotions and feelings , but the sort of enjoyment in exploring that ... aware that, because the 2 people are sensitive to each other, in the long run (maybe not the short run) neither will get hurt.
I take it as the guy and the girl being different characters and singing their different parts, so...

The title reminds me of "A Brief History of Time" but nothing really suits that comparison; bummer :/
