Trippin' Down The Freeway Lyrics
i told you that you would put on some weight,
you went out with somebody named kevin green,
you preferred to go to a volleyball game,
i told you that you couldn't be more lame
no way, we ain't gonna break up
we made a promise and our will won't fade out
not just in '08 and '09
we'll be together from now until the end of time
you've got the Shirley Applebee look
i'm totally caught up on your hook
you know that we are gonna be ok
we'll stick together as we're tripping down the freeway
you withheld the physical love i need
i said, "hey, that i'm gonna play the field"
you broke down and told me you loved me true
i said, "girl, i gotta be with you"
no way, we ain't gonna break up
we made a promise and our will won't fade out
not just in '09 and '10
we'll be together from now until the very end
you've got the Shirley Applebee look
i'm totally caught up on your hook
you know that we are gonna be ok
we'll stick together as we're tripping down the freeway
no way, we ain't gonna break up
we made a promise and our will won't fade out
not just in oh-ten and oh-eleven
we'll be together from now until we're up in heaven
you've got the Shirley Applebee look
i'm totally caught up on your hook
you know that we are gonna be ok
we'll stick together as we're tripping down the freeway
tripping down the freeway!
tripping down the freeway!
tripping down the freeway!
tripping down the freeway!

So I know that there's a Shiri Appleby, but is Shirley Appleby a real person too?
And I think the line should read "Hey, that I'm going to play THE field", like date around, not play baseball.
I think it's a nice set of lyrics, about staying in a committed relationship, even if you don't want to all the time, because you made a commitment and you feel you should stick to it.
Also, the oh-ten and oh-eleven stuff is hilarious.
No idea what the phrase "Trippin' down the freeway" might mean though.
for play left field, its a way to say he is going Gay lol i have no idae how that term came about, but thats what it means..

I have never heard play left field as being gay and why the heck would he threaten her with turning gay anyway he wants to do her not freak her out! It's gotta be. "hey, 'then' I'm gonna play 'the' field" and the first line has to be "I told you that you 'had' put on some weight" but it sounds like "that'chu had put on some weight" IMO

My interpretation of the meaning for "trippin down the freeway" is a couple yelling while driving...I've been there and I can relate to that. He just knows it's going to be ok although they are fighting? Just a shot in the dark here...
i really like the solo. Its nice to hear some weezer guitar solos again. o yea and rivers's voice is amazing. I started to question the new pop weezer, but now that i am listening to it i really dig it again. o yea i just remembered weezer is sweet as fuck!
This song is about getting married and being committed to that person, ie "we made a promise and our will won't fade out" the second meaning of the song is living your life with that person. Tripping down the freeway is the road of life and love. Thats what i got out of the song
The freeway is the road life and love, as Geemers said. It's not a smooth, easy road though. There are gonna be bumps and potholes along the way that may trip you up and have you stumbling, but a couple has to learn to get back up and keep going, no matter how many times they fall.
Cute song, and pretty inspirational(well, to me). It makes me want to give my relationship another chance, unbeknownst, though, to my boyfriend that I was giving up in the first place :b
I Love Weezer :)
For anyone who cares, I assume that this song, like the rest of the record (and its name) is kind of a conceptual thing about some 19-year-old kid who thinks that he's totally rad, and that a totally rad name for his record would be "Raditude" (and I'll put my fuckin' dog on it!").
This song should not be inspirational for anybody, it's making fun of teenage kids who think they'll be in love forever. She withheld sex from him so he said he was going to date other girls, and so she freaked out and went back to banging him and said she loved him, hahaha. Give me a break.
It's a really cool song, like a lot of the songs on the album, it's just not supposed to be taken so seriously. There's a song called "In The Mall", one about girls who got hot after being ugly before, and a fucking "rap" song called CANT STOP PARTYING (for real) featuring Lil Wayne who gives the most ridiculous slowed down insanely stupid verse about partying. It's all a cool joke, peeps. Weezer haven't "changed" so much as they're just doing different weird shit, I think.
