The End Lyrics

We tried to fight for what we thought
That we believed in
Maybe it was all for nothing
(I bet that it was all for nothing)
So we drive, 'cause we like to be alone
There's nowhere for us to go
There's nowhere for us to go

How can you think
That any of this was easy
With all the friends
I've lost along the way?
When this is over
We're all getting older now
And we all play a part in it
Innocence is falling
Can you hear them calling now?
But I'll be by your side until the end

We tried to fight
I guess sometimes you find it's pointless
As long as you can live with yourself
(Tell me how you live with yourself)
So it's time that we take the open road
There's nowhere for us to go
There's nowhere for us to go

How can you think
That any of this was easy
With all the friends
I've lost along the way?
When this is over
We're all getting older now
And we all play a part in it
Innocence is falling
Can you hear them calling now?
But I'll be by your side until the end

To all my friends
Let's make this count
We're not alone, not alone

How can you think
That any of this was easy
With all the friends
I've lost along the way?
When this is over
We're all getting older now
And we all play a part in it
Innocence is falling
Can you hear them calling now?
And I'll be by your side until the end

Sounds like this songs to be about just growing up and growing apart from the people you once knew. How you just lose people and contact with them over the time. But there's always those few people that no matter how long it's been you will always be there for and who will be there for you. Or at least that's what I think...

I think the song might have something to do with all the stuff around one of the band members leaving the band a few years ago. It seems like there was a lot of fighting and that they guy who left felt like it didn't affect the remaining members as much as it did him and he then said some things publicly. This might be their answear back, that it actually affected them too, even if they didn't speak out about it. And now they are getting older, and thay want to put it in the past and move on. Either as friends once again or just let go of the bad feelings.

I think this song is about how Jason left the band a few years back. He's saying that all the fighting was useless and they all just had to live with the choices they made. Jason said some things publicly about his former bandmates and I think this is them saying it wasn't easy for them either and that they've grown up some since then and just wanna put the past behind them.

Every time I listen to this song, without fail, tears just roll down my cheek remembering a very, very close friend who has left us all that he knew would be so devastated.
