Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst
Let me lay beside you, darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything, everything ends
A window
An opened tomb
The sun crawls
Across your bedroom
A halo
A waiting room
Your last breaths
Moving through you
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything, everything
Everything, everything, everything ends
Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand
That everything, everything ends
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst
Let me lay beside you, darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything, everything ends
A window
An opened tomb
The sun crawls
Across your bedroom
A halo
A waiting room
Your last breaths
Moving through you
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything, everything
Everything, everything, everything ends
Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand
That everything, everything ends

As a fan of DCFC, I honestly don't think it's one of their best songs. I still really like it, but lyrically it's deffinatly not what I was expecting. As a fan of the twilight series, though I think it's perfect for the movie.
In a interview Ben Gibbard actually says that this song is based more on his personal experiences than on the content of New Moon. I think the lyrics still fit the mood of the movie though. It sounds to me like this song is basically someone saying I love you, but this will never last. It reminds me of when Edward says " Of course I will always love you... in a way." when he's leaving Bella. And New Moon is basically about the ultimate break up.
So alltogether I think this is a great song for the New Moon soundtrack, and another great DCFC song :)
The lyrics were never intended to be narrative to the story but rather match some of the themes of the story:
Death Cab frontman Ben Gibbard told MTV, "The song at its core is just about meeting another halfway, because life is very short, because there's only a brief period of time to really connect with people, and that it's important to recognize that.
If anything I find the lyric and overall theme of the song relates more to Jacob's perspective as he wishes Bella would 'meet him half way' rather than wasting her time wondering about Edward in his absence, and that Jacob is willing to take Bella at her best or worst. The repeated lyrics "everything ends" refers to what Gibbard stated in the above quote, which is that time does eventually run out and you cannot take people or opporotunities to connect w/ people for granted because that opportunity will eventually end.
I agree with satellitemind. I too have been a DCFC fan as well as a Twilight fan. And I do think this song will fit in perfectly. I think it has a bittersweet sound.
Meet me on your best behavior Meet me at your worst For there will be no stone unturned Or bubble left to burst Let me lay beside you darling Let me be your man And let our bodies intertwine But always understand That everything ends.
I think this is the guy (I guess in this case, Edward...since it's for the movie) saying he's ready for whatever reaction Bella has when he leaves. He will understand if she's angry or not, grief stricken or not...but to make no mistake, his mind is made up that he's leaving forever. "For there will be no stone unturned and no bubble left to burst" really conveys the guy will leave and make sure he will not leave room for her hope of his return/reuniting.As in the book...Edward thought of everything. He secretly took all momentos of pics, the song he made for her...everything. He didnt want her to have anything to cling to. He hoped it would make her forget him. I think the "meet me on the equinox...meet me half way" kinda says to me that he's begging her to agree that it's best that it ends. He wants her to see the wisdom of it.
But that's my take on the lyrics. ALSO...is it me or does the guitar rythym seem similiar to Paramore's Decode guitar melody? For continuity...I kinda like that. Vastly different yet a vague common thread.
I was sooo excited to find out Death Cab was doing the single for New Moon - two of my favorite worlds finally colliding. I must say, however, that I'm not as impressed with this song as I thought I would be. Like everyone else has said, it really doesn't compare to past DCFC songs lyrically. The chorus is really the only part of the song that I like, which is most likely the part that's going to be used in the movie, so it all works out I suppose. I think Ben had the chance to really bring it with this song and he sort of just made a nice song with a nice melody and nothing about it is extremely interesting or awesome.
it seems odd to reference a cyclical event than declare that everything ends
we fall out of love with someone then fall in love with someone else. in a way it's a circle and a straight line at the same time.
This song is literally about relationships and.. math, more or less.
Look up Taijitu and understand how the equinoxes relate given the constantly opposed, intertwined yin and yang. And understand this in the context of relationships and why he would ask to be approached at the equinox. Keeping in mind that every relationship, in every definition of the word, ends.
This is a really good song, and I think its concept fits the story in a very interesting way.
"The sun is perched at its highest peak in the middle of the day. Let me give my lvoe to you, let me take your hand, but as we walk in the dimming light, well, Darling, understand That everything ends."
it begins with the sun at its peak, and he gives his love to her. But then they are walking in 'dimming light', symbolizing that just like the day, their love, (and ultimately life) will eventually end.
"Meet me on your best behavior, meet me at your worst for there will be no stone unturned or bubble left to burst let me give my love to you, let me be your man and let out bodies intertwine, but always understand."
He's saying he will take her at her best and worst, and give everything into their relationship to make it last as long as possible, but it doesn't change the fact that it's going to end, and if not by a break up, then by death.

I absolutely love this song. One of my favorite by Death Cab.<br /> & I'm not a huge fan but I think it's also perfect for New Moon.
For Death Cab, not that good. However, for New Moon, it's perfect. As many have already said.
The music is really good in this one. Like mentioned previously, the lyrics aren't as strong as their other songs, but the music makes up for that lacking.
I don't care at all for the whole twilight thing, so I can't really relate the lyrics to that, but I reckon that UNsweetT has the meaning pretty spot on.
