Against the Stream Lyrics
And down we go again...
into the ocean of sorrow
towards the sea of despair
in the deep grooves of the death
lifeline running in roaring stream
"Like sand slipping through my fingers
nothing ever lasts, ever will"
"To impart elegance all living
experience the grandeur in giving
felicity found in commitment
tranquillity in mere being"
And down we go again
under the relentless wawes
into the arms of calm breakers
into bayou of forgotten dreams
Like sand slipping through my fingers
nothing ever lasts, ever will
"To impart elegance all living
experience the grandeur in giving
from existence into oblivion
not in cycles, but in lines"
Getting nowhere fast
by contending with time
accept the alteration
come to terms with your days
Down we go just the same
into the ocean of sorrow
towards the sea of despair
This river runs relentlessly
and this river runs deep
not in cycles, but in lines
into the ocean of sorrow
towards the sea of despair
in the deep grooves of the death
lifeline running in roaring stream
nothing ever lasts, ever will"
experience the grandeur in giving
felicity found in commitment
tranquillity in mere being"
under the relentless wawes
into the arms of calm breakers
into bayou of forgotten dreams
nothing ever lasts, ever will
experience the grandeur in giving
from existence into oblivion
not in cycles, but in lines"
by contending with time
accept the alteration
come to terms with your days
into the ocean of sorrow
towards the sea of despair
and this river runs deep
not in cycles, but in lines

The interpretation of 'not in cycles, but in lines' keeps bugging me, that's what i think now:
Life, the river, flows down, and once it reached it's end, it stays there. Many people think of life as a circle, as maybe being reborn. This song might contain a contradiction to this attitude, by saying, it's not a cycle, it's a line, that begins, and ends.
This interpretation is (imo) confirmed by 'from existence into oblivion' as well as 'contending with time' (since time will end for you).
I hope that makes any sense.
PS: Also, great literary metaphor of total rock bottom: And down we go again... into the ocean of sorrow towards the sea of despair
Well thought out man, that does make sense.. i mis read, i thought it was "circles" not "cycles" my bad :P

The title says it all , not just us all life repeats a vicious cycle not aware of the results. We use sorrow or despair to see our endless ways but to seek the truth to stand against what we already known.
Great album cover I lıke it
well, i see suicide at the end, blood flowing out of the wrists when cut, deep cuts do it right, and run in lines just seals the deal on my theory.
