i think this song is about the guy who misses his dead girlfriend so badly and imagining to see her...
poor him,this makes me so sad!!!
I take it a different way but I can absolutely see the other commenters way as well. To me it sounds like this guy is in this unofficial, uncommitted unmoving relationship and he wants it to be something more substantial... but sometimes wonders if he wants it so bad because he can't have it. Thats just my take.
