The Incident Lyrics
At junction 8 the traffic starts to slow
Artilleries of braking lights and bluish glow
Ascending in a plumage of twisted steel
Shattered glass and confetti dashed upon the wheel
When a car crash gets you off you've lost your grip
When a fuck is not enough you know you've slipped
When the church is full it means you've just been had
When the world has gone to seed you're so detached
Got a feeling that I want you to be there
Driving by on my way to somewhere else
I fill my lungs with a noxious burning smell
There is weed and grey concrete like this for miles
Dead souls in my rear view mirror hitch a ride for a while
I want to be loved
Artilleries of braking lights and bluish glow
Ascending in a plumage of twisted steel
Shattered glass and confetti dashed upon the wheel
When a fuck is not enough you know you've slipped
When the church is full it means you've just been had
When the world has gone to seed you're so detached
I fill my lungs with a noxious burning smell
There is weed and grey concrete like this for miles
Dead souls in my rear view mirror hitch a ride for a while

Hey dementedPuppy, ever listen to the song vicarious by tool? similler idea. In an interview Steven stated that that this car accident of which the song and album are based affected him so much because he saw a sign next to the crassh stateing "car incident". He thought it was a very impersonal sign for such a tragic event and felt like the ghost that died in ther crash was trying to talk to him. So yeah "i want to be loved" could quite possibly be the ghost pointing out that nobody is really caring for him/her and that everybody only seems to cinsider their death to be nothing but a emotonally detached "incident".
I'm hearing "You get through all this shit"
Anybody know what's being whispered in the background?
Also, this track rocks.
I thought that this song was about a cannibal. "Get to know the chef...you get to know the chef".

yeah i was wondering the exact same thing. almost sounds like "you get demolished". it is a great track but i am still yet to decide whether not this album is a progress or a slight fall back for PT. The album is certaintly growing on me though.
I think it sounds like "You can't demolish it" but I'm not sure. I wasn't so sure about the album first time around but on second listen it sounds fantastic. If on third listen it's even better that's the sign of a classic.
The way this song sounds... it makes me want to do bad things.
This album is definitely not a step back for Porcupine Tree. It really grows on you after a little bit :) I love it already
I think it's a step sideways for the band... FOAB was so venomous and angry... a great album and one that has aided the band in expanding their fanbase. The Incident is more like The Turn of the Screw... dark, creepy and definitely something that works on your brain slowly. I don't think it will do as well as Fear sadly. I adore it though.
I love this song. Bizarrely, I gave this album a spin in the car this morning and this song came on as I was stuck on Junction 8 of the M4 after a really nasty accident on a nearby road. When I drove home this evening there was sawdust all over the road and I felt a little bit sick to think it was to dry up the blood of the motorcyclist who was killed. I'm just as guilty of anyone of dehumanising accidents and this song kind of put that into perspective.
...and if anyone is interested, Junction 8 of the M1 is just outside Hemel Hempstead... perhaps that's the junction in question?

I think this song is about how Steven Wilson passed up a horrific car accident and after he drove past it, he felt the presence of the person killed in the accident in his car.
Anyone mind telling me why he keeps saying I want to be loved, just want to be loved at the end? I love that part though. That's where the song gets beautiful.
I think that the "I want to be loved" are the words of the dead souls.

Everyone wants to be loved, that's why some people love car crashes. It makes them feel better knowing someone is worse off than them.
