Nervous Lyrics

[Play 'New Terrain' backwards and you'll hear this song.]

Nervous, I know
(and I saw you running)
It seems everywhere you go
(in the wooden floors of my house)
They're out to get you
(in a way I couldn't see you)
And then you regret
(and they're not safe buildings)
Should have stayed at home in bed
(when the walls are out of focus)
Nervous instead
(and I wish that I could save you)
Each time

And you're so glad
No one can see
Inside of your tireless mind

Nervous, I know
(and I saw you running)
It seems everywhere you go
(in the wooden floors of my house)
They're out to get you
(in a way I couldn't see you)
And then you regret
(and they're not safe buildings)
Should have stayed at home in bed
(when the walls are out of focus)
Nervous instead
(and I wish that I could save you)
Each time

I think that the red lines have to be read separate from the black lines. I don't think the lyrics can be read straight though. And I believe that they are both separate divisions within his mind. The black lyrics seem to be his paranoid and nervous side (Both are thought that can consume one's mind) and these are undoubtably the more prominent lyrics and they seem to overpower the red ones. I think the red ones are his more logical thoughts. I think they can see him struggling and want to help him but he is too focused on his feelings of paranoia and fear and nervousness. "And I saw you running in the wooden floors of my house" He's saying I can see the paranoia within your mind [my house being his mind as it is his thoughts speaking to him]. "And they're not safe buildings when the walls are out of focus and I wish I could save you" The walls would be his moral standards or his ethical code which has blurred causing this unstable mental condition [not safe buildings being the home which was effectively the mind and therefore unsafe or unstable mind]. And his logical side wants to save him it seems but is just being overpowered by the paranoid and nervous thoughts that are consuming him. So ya that was my take on this song. I totally love the song!

I don't hear those lyrics at all. All I can make out is, "Nervous I know" and "It seems everywhere you go" That, and if this song is another one backwards, how can there be actual lyrics?

Well, he (she?) has just listened the song for seven million times and wrote up everything he (she?) got, maybe boosting this with slowing the song down. But where the hell do you hear "It seems everywhere you go"? I can only hear "Nervous I know" and "Should have stayed at home in bed".

You can only hear the lines beginning with a capital letter. The lowercase lines don't appear in this song. If you start at 02:14 it becomes easy to follow the lyrics. Note that "regret" in "And then you regret" is a bit muddled (must be a difficult word to reverse).

Also, despite New Terrain being the actual song on the album and the forward-recorded version of this song, Nervous's lyrics are the intended ones. New Terrain's are just nonsense (even though "We should not lose terrain" is a brilliant line!), a vehicle for creating a song which...

The lyrics are quite clear. The house "haunts" the person the singer is singing to (later "friend") and the singer wants to save him, though he can't anymore.

Well, it's not the house which haunts his friend, it's actually drugs.

    • "Nervous" - -

The singer is nervous about his friend's drugabuse, becouse he knows it is dangerous.

    • "It seems everywhere you go in the wooden floors of my house They're out to get you in a way I couldn't see you" - -

The singer didn't know his friend is a drug addict, but he finds that out and tries to hide his friend's stuff and make him not to have them. The friend, though, is able to get more somehow.

    • "And then you regret and they're not safe buildings Should have stayed at home in bed when the walls are out of focus" - -

The friend realizes that he shouldn't had started using drugs, but the "walls are out of focus" already and he is dependent on drugs.

    • "Nervous instead and I wish that I could save you Each time" - -

Now the friend probably gets nervous, too; but he can't stop using more and more drugs and the singer wishes that there was a way to stop it each time he is on pills.

Just some random guessing, but so many Mew song is clearly related on drugs and helping friends to get off of drugs and this looks like it could be, so why not?

I honestly can't here the lyrics in between, I've listen to the song on both surround speakers and headphones, there are no lyrics in between in the backwards recording. And why aren't the lyrics in the middle of the song present? The lyrics here must be from a live show

I think the song is simply about the acceptance and understanding ones problems, as if the singer had gone through the same problems, hypochondria or something I think

CaptainNero: The lyrics in-between are the high vocals in the background, if that makes sense. I couldn't hear them at first either.

Huh, that's strange. The lyrics (the lines starting with a capital letter) are really easy to hear for me, even before reading what they were supposed to be. The other lines are a bit harder to understand though. It becomes a bit easier to understand around 2:40 (the higher pitched stuff in the background) for those who can't make it out.
