We Share the Same Skies Lyrics

A strange union the other day
It's a dead Russian, the papers say
But it would be nice if they realised
That she thought 'he is mine'

This town has got you down and I know
I was helping you out
While your hope died under northern skies and it shows
I was helping you to realise
The reason why, it was no surprise
No way

The act will pass by no-one
And I'm said to say it's not different today
Be comforted by we share the same skies
And for once pay no mind

I have decided it's best that you know
I'm still thinking about
Old lies as north-west skies grow cold
No point in denying
Anxiety was my favourite feeling after jealousy
Yeah, I'll concede

That I could not be as nervous as I was
I could not, no way

I think it's about a guy that was afraid that his girlfriend was cheating on him, and so his jealously ending up breaking them up. He's saying he still loves her and misses her "i have decided it's best that you know i'm still thinking about" and she misses him too "be comfored by we share the same skies"

But I think he realizes he's better off without her because he doesn't want to have to feel that jealously and worry again which is why he says "I could not be as nervous as I was" so basically with that line I think he's saying he doesn't like being alone and the thought of being alone scares him but its still better than worrying about if his girlfriend is cheating on him.

Man, that song RULEZ! I've listened it to it about 30 times on the headphones while I wrote this:

This geeky guy knows a girl who was in love with a Russian who is somewhat important. The nerd is jealous, and hides it, but his anxiety about revealing his feelings for her makes him too nervous to talk about what he feels, so he continues acting like a "pal" to her.

You geeks DO that.

Then the Russian was flying his private plane to Seattle or somehwere up northwest, and someone blew it up in a political assassination. ...

DAMMIT! I accidentally hit "Enter" before I finished writing about this song, and it was the reason why this song is so fucking cool. I WAS going to add:

As he comforts her, he also realizes that he's not frightened to tell her how he feels any more. Why? Because he now realizes that people die, that everyone does including him and her, and when they do, it's FINAL. He sees that he had been waiting for something to happen, and he wasn't evens sure what it was. But now he knows that if he doesn't reveal his secret and tell her he loves her, that they will both die and she never will have known.

That makes him not scared anymore. No WAY will he be--not now. He kind of grew up. And while that is ALWAYS a sad thing, he sees that, while he has to die, he is also free to be happy

...with her.

To me, this song is about a long-distance relationship. As, I used this song to relate to my own long-distance relationship. Gary, I think, had a girl of interest from Chicago, and it makes sense since he refers to "north-west skies." I don't want to say she's cheating on him, but someone else is definitely involved, and 'Gary' is being lied to and losing. He's saying it would be nice if the papers said for once, "he is mine" referring to himself. While being away from Chicago, he wants her to know that they 'share the same skies' no matter where they are. But, in this losing battle, feeling anxious and jealous and with no hope of winning the girl he "concedes" Even though how much he cared for her so much that he was nervous around her. Most people don't understand when someone is nervous around you, it means they like you, and I'm guessing she didn't either. Good ol' unrequited love.
