Solo Dolo (Nightmare)

I do not want to sound like a know it all but I need to stress the fact that this song is NOT all about getting high. Kid cudi is an artist and his masterpiece "solo dolo" contains complexities no other rapper would be able to so artfully convey. The meaning isn't as simple as a blazing session

To better understand this song you must know the context. This song comes from his first album Man On The Moon, and the album is split into 5 different acts (another example of the man's creative genius) for a cinematic experience people can connect with more easily, a journey/oddysey into kid cudi's mind. Solo dolo takes place in act 2 called rise of the night terrors. We are sent to his nightmares and solo dolo is definatelly the darkest song on the album. Cudi creates this character "solo dolo" which represents himself and his insecurities.

Now the rest is just opinion. my 2 cents on what solo dolo is all about Immediatelly met with an eerie hook kid cudi starts by developing a character mr. Solo dolo (represents cudi himself and insecurities) giving him qualities of a loner. "listen good I don't have nobody" "but what I might feel are the sounds of sanity" this line is saying all he has is his music "sounds of sanity" and he is not even sure what he hears is sane (insecurity that he is just crazy and others will not understand him) "hoping what I hear loops itself continuosuly" "than I won't be afraid--no no" explaining that even though he is different he hopes to stay true to himself. For the unique sound he creates to continue because if he is just being himself than why should he fear what others think. "why must it feel so wrong when I try and do right" "soaring through paradise when I'm closing my eyes" "I'm mr solo dolo" why must it feel so wrong or uncomfortable to do right which is being true to himself. Obviously soaring with closed eyes refers to being high but not the essence of the song rather a facet of who cudi is he gets high, among other things, for inspiration. The name solo dolo means the lonely stoner. Another example of cudis fear of being alone. A fear brought out by the death of his dad. The next verse cudi is speaking to the audience asking for an honest response to his music and feelings "Look at me you tell me just what you see" "am I someone whom you may love or enemy" "am I speaking for you and yours or Someone else" "I need some answers yeah yeah" cudi looking for acceptance in his audience although he soon learns (in the last verse) that acceptnce of self is more important than acceptance of others.

hey you need to smoke a relo and come back and really listen to the words so you can re-evaluate your definition of this song. "trippin" is definitely a part of this song but it is a lot more than that.

he is Mr Solo Dolo bc he would rather smoke and get lifted by himself rather than always being outgoing or the life of a party... Bc of this a lot of ppl think he is strange or wrong for living that way, but in the end he doesnt care

I'm a CuDi fan and his songs are really good if you know what he's actually talking about. Scott talks about what he feels and in this song he feels lonely and a little depressed from the passing of his father.

In this "My world turns. Flippin' the bird. To the ones who figure, me. Outcast no not the duo." He was an outcast maybe when younger at school or in general.

He escapes from his fears and reality to his imagination to make him feel better or cope with his life.
like in the lines-

"Soaring through paradise when I'm closing my eyes." or "Floatin' in my mind. No Sail. Ahoy. Ahoy"

and like in the beginning it says "Listen Good. I don't have nobody" he is referring to his dads death.

i really listened to this song when i was high and realized it was about me haha. what he tells himself and what "loops around continuously" is this idea that smoking weed by himself....or just smoking in general is the lifestyle he wants. "Am I, someone whom, you may love, or enemy" this line is meant for the people who judge him. all in all great song about being a lonely stoner, his normal theme. i love it.

Don't think smoking to tripping is the subject of this song. Think it's about losing his dad and his world turning upside down.

So Im going to try to tackle this from beginning to end of lyrics: Hes alone from society but seems fine with it. His exterior looks seems normal and sane to those viewing him. But inside he's in constant turmoil from his inner thoughts that are never ending. His turmoil seems to comfort him though.- He tends to combat his inner demons that have run his life for years, hence its hard to be good idea.He would like to have peace from his turmoil, not the adjusting peace like he has, but the type in which he blocks himself from outside pressures that cause it. But theres no way to mask who he really is inside which is "solo dolo"- we will get to what that means at the end... -he is not sure who he may be to others. Friend or foe. Either way hes judged and at times a friend can be a foe. hes been double crossed before. And therefore he doesnt know who he really is to people.

• He has his ups and downs hence the contant cycle as the world turns repeatedly.But it doesnt affect him like it use to because he is now accustomed to it.Those who know his struggles can relate to him, therefore he in a way is normal.He reminisces on how he couldnt be protected by forces of the world and its cruelty- "igloo"Those forces helped mold him to who he is now. Hes stronger and in a way untouchable since he has hardened himself using his own inner turmoils to protect him...so now the question who is "mr solo dolo"..think about it.. kid cudi is alone but has himself- hes in a way two different people- part of him who use to care what people thought of him and theres himself now that doesnt give a fuck. hes there to protect himself.. hence the reference he makes about "me outcast, no not the duo"..solo duo- he changes it to solo dolo- this my interpretation.
