Teenagers (Hayley Williams) Lyrics

I'm gonna go on
Livin' like I never met you
And it'll feel wrong at first
But I think I can forget you
Ignore the fact that we sleep
No more than three feet apart
I feel you now
You're all around me, underneath me
You're all around me, underneath me

Well, how was I to know
That what we carved in stone
Would be so temporary?
Well, how was I to know
That my first crack in luck
Would not be the last?
It won't be the last

It's in the air now
Bitter tears and broken hearts
We're teenagers
We count the years we think we're smart
But we're not
We don't know anything

So don't ask me where I'll go
'Cause, frankly, I don't know
And I don't give a shit
Why must we all make sense?
Oh, I just won't make sense
For once, I'm just gonna live
I'm just gonna live

We're teenagers
(We don't know anything)
We're teenagers
(We don't know anything)

Well, how was I to know
That what we carved in stone
Would be so temporary?
(I'm gonna go on)
Why must we all make sense?
Oh, I just won't make sense
For once, I'm just gonna live
I'm just gonna live

I think this song is about Hayley's teenage-years, and how she felt and acted and what happened. That's probably why the lines:

"Ignore the fact that we sleep No more than three feet apart"

is in it, which probably is about Josh and her touring together.

I like the song, but I can't really relate to it. Yeah, I'm a teenager, but I've never been and probably never will be that cocky I-know-everthing-and-I'm-so-awesome type of teenager. I just feel a bit attacked by it, even though I know that's not the point :P Haha, I felt the same to Taylor Swifts "Fifteen".

I agree with lizzie88, but i also see a loss of innocence in this song (And it'll feel wrong at first But I think I can forget you) And making a transition into being a cocky teenager (We count the years we think we're smart But we're not We don't know anything) And being lost in life, but not wanting to admit it (So don't ask me where I'll go 'Cause, frankly, I don't know And I don't give a sh**) And finally realizing that you aren't the greatest, smartest thing to walk the earth (Why must we all make sense? Oh, I just won't make sense For once, I'm just gonna live I'm just gonna live). Honestly I just see it as what being a teenager is all about.

I actually really like this song, but I think it would sound so much better if it was an actual Paramore song and not a Hayley song. I just think the band could complete the song.

"Ignore the fact that we sleep no more then 3 feet apart".

I hate to be the one to say this, but this song kind of seems to be about Josh.

i thought that the second i read it.

Err, wait, now that I think about it, it seems to be about the whole band. I don't know why I looked at this in a romantic sort of light. The more I read the words, the more it seems to be about the ENTIRE band's issues.

This song if for the movie "Jennifer's Body" with Megan Fox. The "sleep more than 3 feet apart" thing refers to the fact that in the movie Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried are roommates. I know Hayley wrote a version of this song way back when, but that line is clearly for the movie. The whole band might be playing in this song, because I can't think of anyone else who would be on the instruments... I doubt Hayley would use random musicians for a soundtrack song.

Well how do you know for sure that that's what she's referring to?

"i wrote a song a long time ago by myself and the people from the movie asked me if they could use it. it’s not going to be sold as a single and it won’t be promoted other than just being on the tracklisting. don’t worry, this isn’t the beginning of the hayley williams project hahaha. i just write a lot and this randomly got picked up cause janick had it. our priority is the new album and that’s what is the complete focus of all of us. with that said, “teenagers” means a lot to me and i hope...

hayley plays all the instruments herself in this song. :)

I really love this song. I wish it was longer.

And if Hayley did ever decide to do something on her own, I would listen if this was going to be her style.

Confusion about being a teenager, dealing with first broken relationship/friendship, da da da. Pretty straightforward.

The second my friend heard the lyrics of this song she linked it to me and this guy Im having a HUGE row with. He wont let me 'move on' and Im trying to forget him...its an awsome song. Kinda the stage Im at, a cocky teen - 'We count the years, we think we're smart, but we're not' Kinda like how teens think because they're 14, 15, 16 plus, they're the best. But they're just naive. And stuff. Kinda makes me think of someone trying to get over what they did naively because they thought they were smart enough, when really they're just a teen. Just like me really :D
