Dao of St. Paul Lyrics

In this night I need to call you, but all our lines are blown
If only you knew how empty I feel
Maybe then you're lonely too
And it's tearing through you like a puncture wound
Maybe no one knows what to do
When knowing we're alone
In a temporary home
Maybe we'll realize
It's a blessing in disguise
Well don't you know the sound of anger
Brings a dark result
Every insult is like a lightening bolt
So go home now oh you do not have one
To some guy that you don't know
And make a baby
That won't change my problem though
I spent the last three years setting myself
On fire for you, I spent the last three years
Never knowing if what you say is true
And it will be this way til one of us dies
Is that a blessing in disguise
And I tell myself what we're living for
And say rejoice evermore
Till one of us dies
Well I confess that so far happiness
Eludes me in my life
Better hurry up if it's ever to be mine
Better hurry up now if we're ever going to find
What we're living for
If it's not you anymore
I learn to sing
Evermore
Rejoice evermore

this song caught my ear immediately. the heavy guitar part is great and somehow they work in a choir at the end of the song. i figure its just about him resenting a woman for not having the same feelings about him as he does for her. and he sees the terrible things she does and he realizes its better they arent together in a serious way. but still he wants her.

amazing guitar.

ah- i wouldnt say she doesnt have teh same feelings as him. somtimes people have the same feelings but one has an insight ,the other may not have, about the relationship. And so they move on because its whats best. And sometimes people just caught up on eachother and cant let go. maybe it wasnt working out so they gave eachother space. at first it says "if only you knew how empty i feel maybe then your lonley too"

they werent together. he was alone hopeing she was lonely for him as well.

" i spent...

angelique22 i love ur interpretation, cuz its just the way i see this song right now and parallels my life exactly at the moment

ANGELIQUE22 your interpretation is perfect. and inthebackground, this song parallels my life too. Me and a girl got real close over time but i sacrificed so much for her ("I spent the last three years setting myself on fire for you") and in the end we decided a little time apart would do us good ("is that a blessing in my disguise"). but now "if only you knew how empty i feel maybe then your lonley too" is what i'm thinking and i know she's moved on, embraced other guys, living life through weed and alcohol, basically become another person:...

I think he's still looking for that 'one' person to spend his life with. IMO, he's been hung up on the same girl for som time and wants to move forward so he can find that 'happiness'.

Loving this tune right now, especially the repeating chorus at the end, its quote magical. To me this song represents a relationship that has been on the rocks for some time but still exists in a fragmented way. Its nearly tragic, but the singer discovers his own reason to sing even if its no longer for the subject of this tune, "For Evermore - Rejoice."

The fact that this song is called "Dao" brings to mind the infinite peace ascribed to its religious namesake. And Thor, I have to respectfullu disagree about the way these tunes "end" - the fading chorus only reinforces, to me, that infinite peacefulness inspired.

At least, that's my .02

STOKED to see these guys Oct. 2nd!

In this night I need to call you, but all our lines are blown- meaning we don't speak anymore.

When know we're alone In a temporary home Maybe we'll realize It's a blessing in disguise- the "temporary home" is the other people that they're in a relationship with.

Maybe we'll realize, It's a blessing in disguise- this kinda refers to the idea that you don't know what you have until it's gone.

Well don't you know the sound of anger, Brings a dark result- a negative ora brings negative results.

Every insult is like a lightening bolt- insults go straight to the heart.

So go home now oh you do not have one To some guy that you don't know- sarcasm is being thrown out here and with that he's insinuating that she's not happy and hasn't found anyone.

I spent the last three years setting myself On fire for you, I spent the last three years Never knowing if what you say is true And it will be this way til one of us dies- this I can RELATE to.. like CRAZY! My sons mother and I broke up 3 rears ago and I've bent over backwards to make up for the messes I've made. she's gone on and said things that weren't true... but had the intention of just being hurtful. i hope neither of us dies anytime soon.

Well I confess that so far happiness Eludes me in my life Better hurry up if it's ever to be mine Better hurry up now if we're ever going to find What we're living for If it's not you anymore I learn to sing -all in all he, still see's hope. he'd like to know for sure..and he'd like it to be her. he wants happiness overall. it has a reference to the song "can you take me"

"All I want right now Is the time where we slept on the floor You said right here right now Is all that we're living for"

Evermore Rejoice evermore

some of the vocal stylings at the end chorus part sound a lot like adam duritz (counting crows)...

am i imagining this??

also, i think this song is about SJ's relationship with Vanessa Carlton

"spent the last three years setting myself on fire for you..."

they were together for about three years, i think, and he did a lot for her in terms of her career... produced and co-wrote most of the tracks on her latest two albums.
