Do you know what it's like when
You're scared to see yourself
Do you know what it's like when
You wish you were someone else
Who didn't need your help to get by
Do you know what it's like
To wanna surrender

I don't wanna feel like this tomorrow
I don't wanna live like this today
Make me feel better
I wanna feel better
Stay with me here now
And never surrender
(never surrender)

Do you know what it's like when
You're not who you wanna be
Do you know what it's like to
Be your own worst enemy
Who sees the things in me I can't hide
Do you know what it's like to wanna surrender

I don't wanna feel like this tomorrow
I don't wanna live like this today
Make me feel better
I wanna feel better
Stay with me here now
And never surrender

Make me feel better
You make me feel better
You make me feel better
Put me back together

I don't wanna feel like this tomorrow
I don't wanna live like this today
Make me feel better
I wanna feel better
Stay with me here now
And never surrender

Put me back together
Never surrender
Make me feel better
I need to feel better
Stay with me here now
And never surrender

    My Interpretation

I love this song. It describes my personal experiences quite well. When I listen to this song I'm reminded of all the torturous bullying I had to endure through middle school. I cannot begin to guess how many times I wanted to end all the needless pain and suffering, but I held on. Even now, even though the being bullied days are over at last, I still suffer from various things. I still want so badly to just give up and surrender, but I keep on going, because I know my reward later on will be great. I keep on going because I promised myself to never abandon my friends, my family, my girlfriend, my God. It's hard, but if that's what it takes....that's what I think of when I hear this song.

Hm this song seems to me about how the world is trying to conform him, to suck him into all the lies in this world, and maybe he's starting to give in.. but he's still determined to not surrender and hes calling out to God for help to not give in.

I dunno thats kind of how I took it, but it's probably off :P

    My Interpretation

I see this song as a sequel to 'Sometimes.' Especially the chorus:

"Sometimes I don't wanna be better Sometimes I can't be put back together Sometimes I find it hard to believe There's someone else who could be Just as messed up as me"

And the the chorus to 'Never Surrender':

"I don't wanna feel like this tomorrow I don't wanna live like this today Make me feel better I wanna feel better Stay with me here now And never surrender"

I remember hearing this song after a friend died, and it just having such a strong meaning for me now.

I feel that the song is about someone who is struggling in their walk with God, but doesn't want to fall. Doesn't want to surrender to the darkness, that I feel.

can't believe no one has commented, this is one of my favorites on the album. this song is a lot like imperfection on their first one. it's about not being satisfied with your life or having everything go wrong, but having a friend there to make you feel better. love it.

i agree with randisn...i think it's about how sometimes we can be our own worst enemies and we feel like we can't go on but God is saying "Stay with me here and never surrender" as long as we stick with God no matter how hard life is, we can make it through. God can make us better <3

    My Interpretation

Before I read this comments I didn't know Skillet is a Christian band, so I didn't even think about the possibility of it being about god. Maybe it is, but because to me it is just like a situation I know I thought about something else...

It could be about depression, wishing to be someone else who is able to be happy while the singer feels bad all the time, hating yourself, and not being able to accept help. Only you can see the bad things (which are probably not even there, or not that worse as you see them). You just want to give up (surrender). But after a long time you want to get better and get out of this situation, part because you have met someone who can help you and someone you are able to talk to about the situation.

Just because I have experienced this situation, made me think about it when I heard the song. But it could be about something entirely different, who knows?

--sorry if my english is quite bad... I'm still trying to improve it.

To me it sounds like he has a drug problem or something and he has a friend or a woman who is helping him through it, "I dont want to feel like this tomorrow" (He is tired of his addiction) "i dont wanna live like this today" (he is tired of his life being controlled by the substance.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
