I think that's kind of what he means. If you listen, he's talking about being at war with the world because he refuses to "sell his soul" and they keep trying to "pull him into the dark". But he refuses to because he is who he is and no one can change that.

One of the songs I love from the new record! The mix of voices and coming back with strings makes me happy. It was one that caught my attention from the start with 30second sections. Looking forward to hearing the rest tomorrow.
Jens voice is amazing not too mention she is beautiful and sexy as hell lol But yeah the song is basically about the lead singers past and how he started to loose his faith but he had found it again so he feels awake and alive

I like this song. And I'm in agreement that it is about feeling awake and alive in faith with God.
However, just one part of the song always irks me (which is annoying cos this is one of my favourite songs): "I'll do what I want 'cause this is my life"
This is after saying he's awake and alive in his faith with God, but this particular line just comes off to me as "I'm still going to go my own way [and not God's]".
I know what he's getting at, but it just seems like bad wording (to me).

I saw one live performance though and before he sang this song he stated that he agrees with marilyn manson when they say that they will sing about whatever they want, he said sometimes he feels like singing about his faith in jesus christ because 'this is rock and roll and he's gonna about what he wants'.. This verse made a bit more sence to me when I heard his point of view.

YourLastLink, Wookie misunderstood. He thought that John Cooper meant that he would go his own way and not God's in the part "I'll do what I want 'cause this is my life". John Cooper really was talking to the world, pretty much saying that he won't back down just because non-Christians tell him to.
this song meant a lot to me this summer i decided not to play college football and my dad and some other people were pissed at me for it and this song helped cuz i would always think ill do what i want this is my life
