A Prophecy Lyrics
How stubborn are the scars when they won't fade away?
Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?
We'll be home soon so dry your eyes
You'll be okay
Oh my god
The water is rising, it's rising.
You just have to believe in me
Failing that I'll ride this storm alone
We can still make it out
'Fuck'
I can help you through this
But you have to take my hand
I can take you home
Take my hand, take my hand
I should've known the tides were getting higher
We can still survive
They think we're drowning but our heads are still above the waves
Above the waves
I should've known the tides were getting higher
We can still survive
You never said goodbye, goodbye (x4)
And now you're, on your own
You never said goodbye (x2)
Goodbye
Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?
You'll be okay
The water is rising, it's rising.
You just have to believe in me
Failing that I'll ride this storm alone
'Fuck'
I can help you through this
But you have to take my hand
I can take you home
Take my hand, take my hand
We can still survive
They think we're drowning but our heads are still above the waves
Above the waves
We can still survive
And now you're, on your own
Goodbye

I think this song is about the titanic(the movie) (How stubborn are the scars when they won't fade away? Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?) Rose the Girl in the movie Has Scars on her arms from when she would cut herself And every time she looked at them it would remind her of the past
(We'll be home soon so dry your eyes You'll be okay)
Rose Is crying and Jacks There Comforting her telling her they'll be to America soon this is the part where shes trying to jump off the ship
(Oh my god The water is rising) The Ship hits a ice Block and its then flooded with water. Rising up to the top
(You just have to believe in me) Theres a part where jack is framed for stealing from rose And all he asked was for her to believe him
(Failing that I'll ride this storm alone) Since she didnt he then believes he must Fight this war alone
(We can still make it out
'Fuck') the Fuck is that jack Gets locked up on the lower level of the ship right before it starts to sink. Rose Trys helping him break threw that's why it says (we can still make it out)
(I can help you through this But you have to take my hand)
they have to find away off the boat before they die. So hes telling rose to take his hand
(I can take you home Take my hand, take my han) They end up on a little broken off piece of a boat And he tells rose "dont let go" he wants her to make it out alive
(I should've known the tides were getting higher)
the captain of the ship blaims himself for this. So he locks himself in a room while the ship goes down
(We can still survive) jack is convinced they can still survive
(They think we're drowning but our heads are still above the waves) At the end rose is so cold she can barley talk as the rescue team is looking for any survivors and theyre about to give up till Rose finds a whistle and blows it
(You never said goodbye Now you're on your own )
Jack died in the water..and he told her not to say goodbye when he was alive. Now shes alone.
I dont get how a song called Prophecy leads you to think its about a sinking ship...

I guess I can see where you are getting this Titanic idea... but I don't think the Titanic is what the song is about.

"How stubborn are the scars when they won't fade away? Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?"
Clear reference to past days of self harm.
"We'll be home soon, so dry your eyes You'll be okay, You'll be okay"
Unsure as to who he is speaking to, it could be his sub conscience or speaking directly to presumably a female.
"Oh My God The water is rising, its rising You just have to believe in me Failing that I'll ride this storm alone We can still make it out FUCK"
I interpreted this as a panic-striken. He/She/It is falling rapidly and is desperate need of aid. Which quickly turns into a self-motivated attempt to start thinking positively.
"I can help you through this But you have to take my hand I can take you home Take my hand Take my hand"
Because of this I know presume that he is speaking to someone else, but there is still the possibility he is on the recieving end.
"I should've known the tides are getting higher We can still survive They think we're drowning but our heads are still above the waves Above the waves"
I believe this is trying to say; "How could I have been so naive? Don't worry, there is still time to make this right" i.e our "heads are still above the waves"
I should've known the tides are getting higher We can still survive Above the waves I should've known the tides are getting higher I should've known the tides are getting higher We can still survive
"You never said goodbye (Goodbye) You never said goodbye (Goodbye) You never said goodbye (Goodbye) You never said goodbye (Goodbye)"
Now it's clear that he is speaking to someone else, possibly about a girl that has left him, or someone that has passed away.
"And now your on your own"
Reinforces the possibility that is is a girl who left him, and inciting that her life has taken a turn for the worst; e.g due to the break up she lost friends etc.
You never said goodbye You never said goodbye "Goodbye."
He finally ends it, thus the end of the song. He moves on from what she did to him.
My thoughts, I'm sure there are plenty who disagree and will voice their opinion about it.
If you listen closely, the 'fuck' part comes from the song Alerion. If you listen to this song cause of that part, listen to alerion. You'll like it. ;D
Okay, I ONLY signed up for this just to state my thought lmao. I take the meaning differently. To me I think he's speaking about either a close friend who is suffering and he is trying to help, but the friend gives up. [Suicide] How I thought this was, Him saying "You'll be okay, You'll be okay" Thus, assuring his friend everything will be okay. But, his friend is stuck in..misery or depression that he doesn't believe things will get better anytime soon. So I believe danny says "Oh my god. The water is rising, it's rising" -His friend's misery or issues getting worse and worse. "You just have to believe in me" "We can still make it out" He is saying, Hope hasn't failed yet, and he is trying to show him the more..positive way of things and ending his life isn't the answer. "I can help you through this. But you have to take my hand. I can take you home. Take my hand, take my hand" Meaning He is there for his friend and is trying to help but the friend keeps becoming distant. "I should of known the tides are getting higher, we can still survive above the waves" Now it's becoming to late to help his friend, but he still is saying there IS hope. "You never said goodbye" Of course then meaning, his friend has gaven up and ended his life. But so miserable he never said goodbye. "And now your on your own" I think would mean, 'Your dead now, whose there with you?' pointing out he IS alone. He realized he did all he could and just said Goodbye. Personal thought, I see my bestfriend singing this song to me. So yeah...just a different thought, beisdes the whole ex girlfriend Idea.
It's about time someone realized that this song portrays an image of a friend that the speaker is trying to convince to not kill themselves. Throughout the entire song it literally screams "Hey, i'm here for you, just take my hand and don't give up." And at the end the friend/lover finally takes their life.

this songs about a relationship with a girl in europe and how its slowly dying even though theyre still in love and shit. the references to tides getting higher are saying were growing farther and farther apart even though he thinks they "can still survive". in a single moment of sincerity he explains it better as he says "these oceans are far between our hearts, the breathing has got too hard" the rest is pretty self explanatory once u think about it like that and the "How stubborn are the scars when they won't fade away?, Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?" is just really good lyrics thrown in randomly to create an epic intro
Pretty similar to my interpretation. I would assume that it's about being on tour away from someone he loved. It is pretty self-explanatory, but the "We'll be home soon so dry your eyes" is kind of a give away.

From a musician's perspective, this makes a lot of sense.

Probably because even on Lyrics.com [which isn't even a website?] they're still not right.

Favorite song on the new album. <3
While the only thing I pay attention to in a track after multiple playthoughs are the lyrics, I find myself very attached to this track. This isn't atypical of the musical genres I would typically associate myself with, I love the lyrics and the hidden message.
I have discussed the lyrics of this track numerous times with several, quite different, people. The consensus is that this track is possibly about the ending of a relationship. At the beginning it is very straight foreward with how the night has gone for the singer and his significant other. She was obviously quite upset and it seems as though he really doesn't want to see it end. He continually asks for her to take his hand and the reference to water is probably alluding to their drowning relationship. He is asking her to take his hand, for his help.
Another idea is that the person he is talking to throughout is a girlfriend or even just a friend and they are dying or do die by the end of the track. I am struggling to make this situation add up, the only reason I have the idea for this possibility of meaning is because he says "you never said goodbye." While this could be misconstrued, there is some meaning behind it with whether she ended it and didn't ever really say goodbye and give a reason, or it is because they died and didn't say goodbye.
The lyrics are fantastic for how they are not saying the actual fact of matter. He isn't saying what is happening word for word but he is saying what is happening by refering to what is going on as drowning. The subtlety could be lost depending on how closely you listen and it isn't to difficult to establish a backstory, there is still mystery in the actual story that is taking place. The way that Asking Alexandria does a bridge halfway through each track is common for them but in this track when they wash out the vocals halfway through and he continually says "i should have known the tides were getting higher, we can still survive above the waves" it is actually (if on purpose) dependent on an emotional core and it is pushing meaning into the song. If anything, in real life it would be the time that the heart breaks. I realize that I may be looking way to far into this track but I feel like there were feelings that had been put in and this track was not written in 10 minutes prior to recording.
Aside from everything, there is some talent in the actual singing and even if you don't care for the lyrics, this track is still one to possibly say that it is the best on the entire album. It seems to be the most emotionally intense and even the most in depth with how far the band went into the creation and studio.
Just my idea. This is one users opinion.
i think they worded it so it could be about a few different things like you mention. i think these guys have a lot of talent in their lyrics and music and im hoping their next album will be as good if not better!.. if they stay together. you never know with these types of bands.
