Carby (feat. Ezra Koenig) Lyrics

Girls all around the world
Tellin' me that everything I've done's my fault
And it's possible they're right
Cause I spend every night
Waiting by the phone and more than this

They say my skirt's too low
Never let me go
Finally I feel all right
Cause I only got to try
Only close my eyes
And maybe I can see the light

But, wait
Oh, it's much too late
Oh, and I cannot be walking home
Until I've found my love
Oh, the other girls are driven home
So, where's the freedom in the disco
If you're all alone

Boys all around the world
I know that they hurt
But never really felt before
And it's possible they might
Cause I spent every night
Blowing up my spot
And more than this
My makeup's never right
Hoping for a fight
Walking towards the door
And if I scream
I wouldn't make a shout
Cause half the underground
Is kissing in the parking lot

So, wait
Oh, it's much too late
Oh, and I cannot be walking home
Until I've found my love
Oh, the other girls are driven home
So, where's the freedom in the disco
If you're all alone

Wait
Oh, it's much too late
Oh, and I cannot be walking home
Until I've found my love
Oh, the other girls are driven home
So, where's the freedom in the disco
If you're all alone

just a few differences from the offical lyrics in the booklet, other than what was mentioned before:

"all the other girls are DRIVEN home"

"Boys all around the world I know that they hurt But never really felt before And it's possible THEY MIGHT CUZ I SPENT every night blowing up my spot And more than this MY makeup's never right Hoping for a fight Walking TOWARDS THE DOOR And if I scream I WOULDN'T make a shout CUZ HALF THE UNDERGROUND Is KISSING IN the parking lot"

Well, I'm not certain, but I think this is a song written from the point of view of a 15 year old girl who is frustrated with relationships or the lack thereof.

The key is the the missing lines from the above lyrics.

I think the first line is: Girls all around the world Tellin' me that everything I've done's my fault And it's possible they're right Cause I spend every night Waiting by the phone and more than this

They say my skirts to low Never let me go Finally I feel all right Cause I only got to try Only close my eyes And maybe I can see the light

So, you can imagine a frustrated girl chatting with friends (internationally perhaps) confused with what she's doing wrong.

She can walk to the teen club and back home while her friends are "driven home". She has more freedom than them, but what's the use in having that freedom if you're all alone?

Oh and the "cruisin' through the parking lot" line... I think they are saying "is pissin' in the parking lot".

Look at the song from this perspective and see if it changes the above lyrics for you a bit.

Ooops... another listen and that's likely "kissin' in the parking lot". :)

Why is it that Ezra Koenig always seems to sing from a girl's perspective? Anyone else find this interesting?

my thoughts exactly.

Why does Miyazaki always have girls as the main characters in his films?

It's just how they identify.

I think the chorus is about a girl wanting to find love, and all her friends have boyfriends, hence have someone to drive them home. She's all alone, and deals with other people's falling in love around her. She's hopeless for love.

why is this song called carby?

Carby is the contraction of a carburator. Maybe meaning how the other girls get driven home?
