I think this song could be interpreted in many ways - what I think it means? The song is about trying to progress after the loss of your one true love to death...he is trying to move on...he is having problems trying to progress and everyone knows after the loss of a loved one your emotions go from up to down and back again......at least that is my theory...

I am in total agreement with creator 1456 - this song has great melodic progression with proper building of sound. There is also a perfect balance between highs and lows - Emma and Shimon - couldn't have said it any better myself....

I think this song is about being in love with your best friend and when to take it to the next level. When that happens, it's about more than a physical connection. They really know each other.

"I'm holding up white balloons up against a sky of doom. Tell me you see them. Cause what's inside of me is invisible to most, even in clear view." They are so close that they can sense how they feel when other people can't.

"I'll break my silence if I believe that you and me could ever be more than just what's been behind us." Self explanatory

If the white balloons represents his affection, then the chorus would signify that he wants them to take over and take the relationship to the next level.

I agree. This song is my favorite and the best off the whole album. Emma's vocals are so lovely. It's such a sweet song about just being with that one person that makes you the most happy.

Perfect example of how a song should progress from soft and quite to heave and loud and back again.

The way I see this is that it's about the bond you can share with someone who helped you through hard times.

"I'm holding onto white balloons up against a sky of doom" sounds like they're holding on to hope.

"what's inside of me is invisible to most even in clear view I'm sending out a signal to the possibility of you 'cause right at this moment I know you're connected to a part of me that I don't even know myself" Sounds like the person they're addressing really gets them more than most people.

"The changes in me are likely to be like the weather" Hard times put people through changes, and this lyric: "I've worn a hundred faces of the character replacements and now and now nobody sees me" ...suggests that the person feels like they need help, they feel like a whole different person.

And finally, "Angels lift me are you with me? I'm holding onto you like I'm holding onto white balloons Carry me away I hope that you don't break don't break " ...this just finishes off with a declaration of how dependent they are on the one who's helping them.

I agree with nortreil and maybe musicmama888 and extend it one further to Shamon singing to/about Emma. How can you grow up with such a beautiful female friend and band member (and vice versa, meaning beautiful people) without checking it out.

I feel like this has to do with his inner child and someone he loves.. "I'm holding on to you like I'm holding on to white balloons", When you are a child once you get a balloon, you want to hold on to it. And the character is connecting those two together...
