Celeste Lyrics

Here I stand acting like a silly clown would,
I don't know why Would anybody like to try
The changes I'm going through ?
A hidden lie would fortify
Something that don't exist
But it ain't so bad, I'm just a lad,
So many more things to do,
I intend to come right through them all with you.
My songs are merely dreams visiting my mind
We talk a while by a crooked stile,
You're lucky to catch a few.
There's no magic wand in a perfumed hand,
It's a pleasure to be true.
In my crystal halls a feather falls
Being beautiful just for you
But that might not be quite true, that's up to you.
Dawn crept in unseen to find me still awake
A strange young girl sang her songs for me
And left 'fore the day was born.
That dark princess with saddening jest
She lowered her eyes of woe,
And I felt her sigh, I wouldn't like to try
The changes she's going through
But I hope love comes right through them all with you.

Cover art for Celeste lyrics by Donovan

From the lyrics we can tell he is feeling foolish in a sad kind of way and that he doesn't wish anyone to be going through what he currently is. But is ain't so bad because he's 'just a lad', implying that it's just a stage he's going through. He still has a positive attitude when discussing his troubles with her and says 'I intend to come right through them all with you'. He spends and evening with a girl, possibly Celeste, and stays up almost until morning with her having a lengthy conversation. By dawn he's still awake and reflects on what he learned about the girl. Not long ago he was feeling down about his current situation and was left feeling sorry for this 'strange young girl', this 'dark princess with saddening jest' and 'eyes of woe'. And although he was struggling with his predicament he wouldn't exactly trade his situation for hers. He was grateful she was willing to listen to him and allow him to get what was bothering him off of his chest. At the same time he hopes he was able to do the same for her.

My Interpretation

Don't know if this is true but a friend once told me that she had a friend in Chicago who spent the night talking with Donovan and playing music. Sometime after this the album came out. Her name was Celeste. Don't know how to verify this but it is a good story.
