Paradox Lyrics

Bite your tongue until it bleeds.
This pain is worth more than what you have to say.
Swallow your pride because silence is golden,
and I wouldn’t pay a penny to hear your thoughts.

Lie down your guard and surrender.
All that you’re proving is your ignorance.

Choose your words carefully.
He that keeps his mouth keeps his life.
He that opens his lips too wide shall bring on his own destruction.

Bite your tongue until it bleeds.
The pain is worth more than what you have to say.
Swallow your pride because silence is golden,
and I wouldn’t pay a penny to hear your thoughts.

Lie down your guard and surrender.

personally i think this song talks about how we take pride in our words and yet how they hurt others so.

thejoysoflife: i beleive you are correct. we take pride in what we say even though we hurt others. and when he says "lie down your guard and surrender" maybe he means and think before you talk, back down (surrender) from what you are about to say in order to not hurt others.

August Burns Red lyrics are so dry.

I think this song speaks volumes about respect. In regards to the proverbs reference, I think it means something along the lines of keeping your mouth shut isn't always a bad thing. The band isn't telling you to completely shut-up; not even close. I think if you have something to say, especially if it's of importance, then you better have something good to say-- as in, 1. Something Positive; Respectful and not Offensive. And, 2. Something that holds weight. Back up your claims with substantial evidence (Proving you are ignorant).

I think since they have a Christian background, they are directing this at people (both Christians and non-Christians) who speak of the Christian faith. If you got something to say, make sure it holds weight. Don't assume, or be ignorant because once someone finds a loop-hole in your claims, it's game over ("Lie down your guard, and surrender. All that your proving is your ignorance"). You will be called out on it one day and you will look like an idiot (hence bringing upon your own destruction).

IDK. Just my interpretation.

First paragraph correction (Last line): "Proving you are NOT ignorant."

This song made me think a lot and helped me to be more patient with people.

IMO, The paradox that this song espouses is "You can be correct, but you are still wrong if you are arguing from a position of pride and disrespect".

I'm not sure who is the target of this song, but I take it as a personal challenge to speak with respect and patience with people even when I "know" that I am right.
