Writing on a Wall Lyrics

Come away young man, where the ground is red, and you need a mask to breath.
Oh, its been so hard, but your luck could change if you'd just roll up your sleeves.
We had tried our best to warn before, but it didn't get you far.
Now we're here again, with a wish to mend, your agonizing scar.

Open eyes young man, vigilantly hands and a heart prepared for pain.
You will lose much more in this vicious war,
past and present stay the same. But the time to come can be altered some if you listen to our song
Do we sing in vain?
Does the fact remain "There is nothing to be done?"

This is a return of the Oracles last seen on the Delphi Express (see Act II, song 4). Last time they were warning The Boy (Dear Hunter) about the dangers of leaving the land of the river and the lake, because he was going to lose himself to Ms. Leading (if you flee from grace your souls cannot be saved). Now, The Boy is on his way to a war and they're warning him again about the dangers of it. They warned him on the train about it too in the line: "when the bombs go off, you'll know right where you are".

"Come away young man where the ground is red and you need a mask to breathe. Oh, it's been so hard, but your luck could change if you'd just roll up your sleeves."

If the Dear Hunter works hard enough in the army, good things could happen.

"We had tried our best to warn before but it didn't get you far. Now we're here again with a wish to mend your agonizing scar."

The Oracles are back to try and guide him in the right direction, and hopefully help him settle his regret for his past struggles.

"Open eyes young man vigilantly hands and a heart prepared for pain. You will lose much more in this vicious war, past and present stay the same."

He is seeking bloodshed and is cold and bitter because of what he's been through. And he will repeat his mistakes if he doesn't heed the Oracles' warning.

"But the time to come can be altered some if you listen to our song...but we sing in vain, and the fact remains, there is nothing to be done?"

They know that he isn't going to listen, and therefore he is on the road to a new painful conflict.

I agree with steph nite. Any theories about what he will lose in the war? Perhaps of the three people he meets in this albumn, there is a death? Or maybe an arm or leg ha.
