Living For The Night Lyrics

Every day's a lifetime without you
Hard to get through since you've gone
So I do the only thing I know how to
To get by... I'm living for the night

I've drawn all the curtains in this old house
To keep the sun out and off of my face
Friends stop by to check in because I've checked out
I tell them I'm fine... I'm just living for the night

Daylight can't hide the tears I cry
The pain that came with your goodbye
The memories that keep me out of sight
Every night I venture out into those neon arms
That hold me tight
I'm living for the night

I'm a whole lot easier to talk to
When I've had a few, I settle down
The whiskey kills the man you've turned me into
And I come alive... I'm living for the night

Daylight can't hide the tears I cry
The pain that came with your goodbye
The memories that keep me out of sight
Every night I venture out into those neon arms
That hold me tight
I'm living for the night

I'm living for the night

Every day's a lifetime without you...

Sometimes as a man grows older, he loses parts of himself just to live his life in some semblance of peace with his family. The young man that he remembers is still there, just hidden under obligations and concilatory gestures of love. He just doesn't have the strength or stamina to call upon this glorious image of himself any longer.

When the liquor starts to flow, it strips off the layers of the current man like refinishing an antique until, finally, the original piece is uncovered. It seems that in the day to day living of one's life, we lose who we used to be, the one person whom we thought we liked and didn't hurt the ones we love. As time passes, we tend to meld into our spouses in ways that are not consistent with what we think we should be like. This is the basis of conflict between the responsible man and the man we think she married. Fun just seems to dissappear into responsibility.

I also see someone torn between career and family olbligations. We want to be in all places to experience the joys of life, but just can't seem to find time for any. The healthiest way to live is to pick what is MOST important and move toward that goal. I wish I could tell you what that one thing would be, but it's different for everyone.

As we are hurt by others or hurt others, we tend to push those feelings down and try to forget. This only masks the pain and in this way, we also can lose parts of ourselves. In relationships, we never end as the same person that we started the relationship being. That's just life, we all grow and change. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not.

maybe when Jenifer was born, it turned him into a man. a lot of people get depressed after the death of a child, and maybe drinking was where he turned too to kill the pain. Going to bars was probably an outlet to trying to forget. "Everyday's a lifetime without you." This song is for Jenifer. But I can see it from both perspectives of it being a breakup also..

Good song. Sad song. I see it both ways as a difficult breakup and the tragic loss of his daughter. Personally, I can related to it as tough breakup. She's gone, and the "whiskey kills the man you turned me into" because there's no reason for him to exist if she's not there either.

One of my favorite songs everrr. The meaning is quite obvious; A girl broke his heart and hes depressed. He can't face the day anymore, so hes living for the nights. Neon arms represent bars, so every night he goes out and drinks the pain away. George strait is amazing

I honestly think the song is about his daughter Jenifer. Thats exactly the first thing I thought of.

Hm. You are probably right, it would make sense.

I don't agree with that. "whiskey kills the man you've turned me into" and "the pain that came with your goodbye" lead me to think it's about a break up. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the line "every day's a lifetime without you" know the feeling. great song!
