You'll Be There Lyrics

Hope is an anchor, and love is a ship
Time is the ocean and life is a trip
You don't know where you're going
Til you know where you're at
And if you can't read the stars
Well you better have a map
A compass and a conscience
so you don't get lost at sea
Around some lonely island, no one wants to be

From the beginning of creation, I think our maker had plan
For us to leave these shores and sail beyond the sand
And let the good light guide to the waves and the wind
To the beaches and a world where have never been
And we'll climb upon a mountain, y'all we'll let our voices ring
Those who've never tried they'll be the first to sing

CHORUS:
Woah My My
I'll see you on the other side
If I make it
And it might be a long hard ride
But I'm gonna take it
Sometimes it seems I don't have a prayer
Let the weather take me anywhere
But I know I wanna go
Where the streets are gold
Cause you'll be there

Oh my my

You don't bring nothing with you here
And you can't take nothing back
I ain't never seen a hearse, with a luggage rack
So I've torn my knees from praying
Scarred my back from falling down
Spent so much time flying high, til I'm face first in the ground
So if you're up there watching me, can you talk to God and say,
Tell him I might need a hand to see a boat someday

Repeat Chorus

Cause you'll be there

Oh my my

I have always loved this song, I think the meaning is very explicit and it's beautiful. George Strait did not write it himself though, but was drawn to the song -- and pretty sure it was dedicated to his daughter Jennifer who he lost when she was 13 in a car accident. Lovely song, it's a happy kinda sad.

I think it's about making good choices, in order to get a good outcome... Like people face obstacles all the time, but he knows what he has to do even if it is hard in order to be with the one that he loves and God. Amazinggg song.

This really is a beautiful song. He wants to go to Heaven because someone who was very close to him is there. He wants to be reunited with them, so he is trying his hardest to live a good life so that when he does cross to the other side he will be with them.

Im with rocknchick..This song is so beautiful and true that it shouldn't be set for one purpose..It'll mean something to every person who hears it.

The song has so many clever metaphors that seem like they were taken out of the most intellegent of poets or writers, "Hope is an anchor, and love is a ship - Time is the ocean and life is a trip." It means different to everyone that hears it, but the intended meaning is obviously about heaven and how hard the life on Earth will be to get to go there, but we've all got the chance to go and if we want to go, then we can. But I keep thinking that George is singing to someone who has died because he is singing about getting to heaven because "You'll be there."
