I met a man of two feet tall
This man was quite ambitious
In a world that is so vicious
To us all

I said hi
As he replied
He said listen to these words that I have lived by my whole life

You're only as tall
As your heart will let you be
And you're only as small
As the world will make you seem
And when the going gets rough
And you feel like you may fall
Just look on the bright side
You're roughly six feet tall

I met a man of twelve feet tall
He towered like a giant
In a world that was defiant
Of his height

I said hi
As he replied
He said listen to these words
That I have dreaded my whole life

You're only as tall
As your heart will let you be
And you're only as small
As the world will make you seem
And when the going gets rough
And you feel like you may fall
Just look on the bright side
You're roughly six feet tall

I am a man of six feet tall
Just looking for some answers
In a world that answers none of them at all

I'll say hi
But not reply to the letters
That you write because
I found some peace of mind

Cause I'm only as tall
As my heart will let me be
And I'm only as small as the world will make me seem
And when the going gets rough
And I feel like I may fall
I'll look on the bright side
I'm roughly six feet tall.

This song is actually brilliant and it really sets life out and makes it clearer.

I think its about the main person who is quite confused about life. He then meets two people who are basically on different ends of the spectrum in life. One is basically a nobody but yet he struggles to make ends meet and keeps a smile on his face because of the saying, which is the chorus. The second is a somebody who is rather big in life and everyone knows, basically he lives the high life, but he always gets down when he is reminded about the saying (the chorus). Both people, who the main person meets, comment that he is neither too big or too small and so he should keep it that way because that is how life looks best at, neutral.

The chorus is basically saying that "You may be one person but you can still help but don't become big headed about it"

    Song Meaning

In the music video, the 2-feet-tall-man is little, cute and happy. He sleeps on the ground, a sign of poorness. The 12-feet-tall-man is big, overwealming and unhappy. He has $'es as eyes. A diamond ring. Obviously rich.

I think that although you aim for succes, it isn't the way wich makes you most happy. The size of the men, (2-6-12) does represent their psychologic state, it has nothing to do with height.

    Very good song. iLike!

Does anybody else hear the similarities between the melody of this song and the verses of "I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light" by Brand New?

This song is "Spin Light" by Brand New. This songs is okay, but honestly, if you steal a hook, try to a.) Not steal it from one of the biggest names in the genre, and b.) Don't steal it if it's as complicated as "Spin Lights". 5 chords in the same order is a bit much.

this song is about not letting anyone tell you what you can do or not do just bc of what you have or dont have, bc there are people out there who has it way worse than we do but still do what they have to do.

this song is PURE genious. i wish more people would listen to it...i think they might find what theyve been looking for!

it mixes the old folkish sound with the new "emo sound" and the outcome is one of a kind.

this song talks about two unfortunate men - one who is too short and one who is too tall. the narrator is feeling very down, which is why the men gave him some advice. when they talk to him, he realizes that he has it better off than most people - "ill look on the brightside, im roughly six feet tall" when he comes to this peace of mind, he decides he doesnt need to answer or read any "letters" to make himself feel better because he is alright now. i think this song is about a girl who broke his heart and he needs a reminder that he has it good anyways....thoughts?

    IM HOOKED ON THIS SONG!

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
