What It Means to be Alone Lyrics
Oh, you were born with the sun.
Oh, you will die with the moon.
Everything you thought you had you lost,
But now you'd never lose what you don't have.
Prayers from above, never answered quite enough.
Now the only one you have is you.
With this cruel and bitter heart,
you were cold and in love,
left here naked in the sun.
Run scared from this cruel and bitter world.
This has only begun as the bombs are bursting off.
Smoke arose on azimuth glares.
Bodies brood in frigid winter air,
where families' sons are robbed beneath their feet
and hearts concede "ad ovo".
The angel sings "ad astra".
Our eyes to the sea.
We thought that we had a cause for suffering
and reason enough to die alone.
With our feet beneath us, and our hands to the sky,
we extend our limbs begging "why oh why?"
Don't turn away.
Prayers from above, never answered quite enough.
Looking up, never offered you too much
now the only one you have is...
Oh, you will die with the moon.
Everything you thought you had you lost,
But now you'd never lose what you don't have.
Now the only one you have is you.
you were cold and in love,
left here naked in the sun.
This has only begun as the bombs are bursting off.
Bodies brood in frigid winter air,
where families' sons are robbed beneath their feet
and hearts concede "ad ovo".
The angel sings "ad astra".
Our eyes to the sea.
We thought that we had a cause for suffering
and reason enough to die alone.
we extend our limbs begging "why oh why?"
now the only one you have is...

I think he is realizing his choices that brought him to this point have also left him nothing to return to.I see him regretting his decisions that have led him here. Maybe he is wishing he was still in lust or as the song seems to dictate, in love with Ms. Leading. And when "Prayers from above never answered..." I wonder if he was was guided by his mom's ghost, or the oracles, but either way, went astray from their guidance and is now alone, stuck. I like how he seems to have mood swings, almost as though he is annoyed with himself just as much as he is with Ms. Leading.
As the song continues he puts Ms. Leading in the back of his mind and sees what pain can be caused by war, something even worse than a broken heart. I love it when he describes his first taste of war, and the son's being robbed from their families, a lot of cool imagery there. "Smoke arose on the azimuth glares/ Bodies brewed and frigid winter..." I think of the azimuth as a guiding direction often associated with ships at sea using due north and stars to get a precise angle on which direction to travel. But it is also used for military artillery fire.
Eh, I was only posting the lyrics for the paino version on youtube. I'll change them.
Also, you can follow KChaChaK lyrics to the song, which are the ones sung on the album, but the lyrics I posted are from the album booklet.
