Capital M-E Lyrics

the nicest man i ever met
was more malicious than malcontent
yeah, he taught me how to hold my tongue
and wait to strike 'til their backs were turned

and you slither away like the snake that you are.
and you slither away like the snake that you are.

all i ever did was look up to you
and if all i ever did was let, let you down
ain't nothing stopping me now.

divinity spelt correctly beneath
the receding pride of his twenties
was capital m-e (i couldn't subscribe)
was capital m-e (but you can't say i didn't try)
you say what you want (maybe i didn't get my way)
so you say what you want (maybe i didn't get my way)
but i got, i got away.

all i ever did was look up to you
and if all i ever did was let, let you down
ain't nothing stopping me now.

was it everything you hoped for?
was it all of that and more?
too much too soon?
or too good to be true?
was it everything you hoped for?
was it all of that and more?

all i ever did was look up to you
and if all i ever did was let, let you down
ain't nothing stopping me now.
all i ever did was look up to you
and if all i ever did was let, let you down
ain't nothing stopping me now.

It seems like most of TBS's songs are about former band mates. And like somebody said it seems like every new album has a different lineup. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

This song's about Fred.

i liked them better with the first guy than this dude

The first guy was John Nolan, who then went on to form straylight run, a brilliant band, so im glad he left taking back sunday. Seems like everyone who leaves tbs goes on to be in a brilliant band, apart from fred of course whose album was distinctly avarage!

this song is about fred and how he talked trash about the band

"the nicest man i ever met was more malicious than malcontent yeah, he taught me how to hold my tongue and wait to strike 'til their backs were turned"

means that when fred was in the band he was just as nice as he can be, but when he left he stabbed them in the back.

For those that are wondering about the tension between TBS and Fred, this quote is by Fred after leaving TBS. "There were just problems between the five of us about writing, who was going to do it and how we were going to do it, we weren't being very productive because we were fighting too much about that stuff. The band was more about cooking food than making music."

Comments like these caused Adam to write Summer, Man and Capital M-E.

good song... the only correction i have is:

"and nothing's stopping me now"

should be

"ain't nothing stopping me now"

This song is at first hard for me to find good... It's about fred. I liked him and still do. The song itself sounds like it was made by fred himself.. it had some similarities with his songs on tcf. I think Adam did this on purpose. the part were "but i got, i got away." was a patented Fred tone.. If he was still in TBS he would surely sing that line...

I didn't know that they had a bad breakup. About Fred or not this is an unbelievably good song.

The break up in public seemed like it was nice, but Fred did say he would turn in songs, and they always refused to use them and he was real upset about that. Then fred wrote the song "complaintor" directly about being in TBS. So i suppose they are just writing their comeback at him

so typical TBS... this hypes their two bands more... Like they did with Brand New...

The meaning behind this and Summer Man kinda make me lose respect for Adam as a person, but the song itself does sound great.

I've seen several different videos where the members of TBS would comment on how mean Fred could/would be. So I'm no surprised by the opening lines of this song.
