Unfair Lyrics

The city sleeps, so silently
I wish I could say the same for me
But I've got this dead ended street,
To keep searching for a tunnel underneath a bitter truth
Or a bridge invisible I won't fall through

I don't know how much I can keep,
Letting you unravel me,
'Cause the more you learn, the more we share
We were worlds apart, and you see
It was so much easier to be
'cause now I know what we can't have and it's so Unfair

I never meant most of those pretty words I said,
But I wanted you to think I did
'Cause telling you all this makes no difference
No, it's useless, 'cause those who get to know our hearts the most
They always seem to be the ones we'll never hold

And I don't know how much I can keep,
Letting you unravel me,
'Cause the more you learn, the more we share
We were worlds apart, and you see
It was so much easier to be
'cause now I know what we can't have and it's so Unfair

Can't you see it's destroying me?
I can't stand the closeness.
But don't you dare go avoiding me.
It kills me and yet it keeps me going.

I don't know how much I can keep,
Letting you unravel me,
'Cause the more you learn, the more we share
We were worlds apart, and you see
It was so much easier to be
'cause now I know we can't have and it's so Unfair

I think it's about two people who had lived in two different worlds, now that they get to know each other they share a lot, but the problem is that for some reason they can't start a serious relationship, and their only chance is to be friends. I love this song, I can relate to it. and I love these lines: those who get to know our hearts the most They always seem to be the ones we'll never hold

Gorgeous. I love all of her songs; the lyrics, her voice, the way you can feel her emotion in every word... ahh. This one is my favorite, because I relate to it so much.

It's definitely about a girl who is in love with someone she can't have, as everyone else has said. I don't see it as being about an ex, but rather a person who she's always wanted but knows that she'll never be with. The being in love with a friend thing makes sense; I personally relate to it as falling for a guy who is with someone else. Becoming friends with him, really close friends, and knowing that you're as close as you'll ever be. The first verse with the metaphor about a city - "but i've got this dead-ended street to keep searching for a tunnel underneath a bitter truth" - she knows that he's with someone else, and that it can't happen, but because they're close to each other, she keeps falling into the same trap of false hope, and imagines herself with him. She ends up at the same conclusion every time, but still hopes. In the second verse, I think she's saying that he suspected that she had feelings for him but she lied about it, because telling him how she feels only complicates things. So she tells him "pretty" lies about just caring for him as a friend. The lines "Can't you see it's destroying me? I can't stand the closeness. But don't you dare go avoiding me. It kills me and yet it keeps me going" say it all for me. It hurts her so badly to be close to him and know she'll never have him, but she can't stay away, because having a little bit of him is better than nothing at all. It hurts that he cares about her but will never love her; it hurts to talk to him and know that they have a connection, to get that teaser of what it would be like to have him but never really find out.

i think you've hit it right on... that's exactly what i think the song is about. very good description btw i couldn't have said it better.

This song is amazing acoustic! it feels like a live version and i'm so glad they decided to keep it like this! to me this song is about a girl who wants to be with someone so bad but the other is either with someone else or just doesnt want to take the risk of being with the girl. it kinda seems to me that it could be about a girl falling for an older guy or falling for a guy she's known her who life but the guy just doesnt know what to do. this album is going to be amazing

I think its about a girl, who decided to let a guy get closer to her. The more he knows about her though, the worse she feels because she's come to the realization that they can't really be together. She talking about how unfair it is that she finally let someone in and its not going to work out. I think its a great song and I love Kate's voice in this slow ballad.

I love the lines "But don't you dare go avoiding me. It kills me and yet it keeps me going." It remeinds me of a relationship I had.

i think this song is about a girl who is in love with a guy who is in a relationship, and they become to get really close, almost like best friends, and she falls harder for him the more she gets to know him and the more she shares with him, but it is killing her, because she knows they can never be together. the most meaningful lines in this song are;

'those who get to know our hearts the most, they always seem to be the ones we'll never hold.'

I take the lyrics of the song as her and this guy gave the relationship a try and for some reason it didn't work out. They're trying to be friends, but it's not working because she's thinking of how the relationship could have been. She thinks that it's all or nothing with the lyrics "We were worlds apart and you see, it was so much easier to be". She can't stand being around him without thinking about what they can't have. But she still can't give him up in the lines "But don't you dare go avoiding me. It kills me and yet it keeps me going." I dunno. Just my opinion. I think this song can be taken a few different ways.

This song is so beautiful! I love her voice. I think it's about a girl who loves this guy who may be a best friend, but he either doesn't love her back or it just can't happen. It could also be that she is in love with an older guy (the being worlds apart)and it could just never happen between the two of them. I can totally relate to this song. My favorite lines are: No, it's useless, 'cause those who get to know our hearts the most They always seem to be the ones we'll never hold
