I really appreciated the comments above, but I gathered a slightly different meaning. This song seems to me, about 2 lovers, in love, but being unable to move past something difficult. This song asserted itself on me, kidnapping all of my attention, until I went through, and looked up words, to dissect it of all it''s meaning. These two, seem to know that they're in love, and that the other is the 'only one,' however, they're perhaps unable to be together, as it seems that there's a realization that the past is just unforgiving... But perhaps this is a plea- to forgive the unforgivable? Last, personally for myself, it seemed that Angus and Julia were able to put into words, what my heart has wanted to say- so thank you so very very much.

Plural form of the word swords- does this mean multiple duels? Shoot me to the ground [a sharp unpleasant sensation usually felt in some specific part of the body… Ground- the area around and belonging to a building. FANTASTIC song. It has been circling around in my head for the last week. Makes me want to sing out loud and dance on rooftops. One of their absolute best.

dont know about this song giving me the energy to sing out loud and dance on rooftops, its more of a haunting style. beautifully written, the last few lines are delivered with a tortured air. mixture of piano and guitar is amazing.

I think he's telling the girl not to play him... he's tried hard, she hasn't. he's telling her there's nothing to lose. you are mine, i am yours, lets not fuck around... one of the two best songs on the new album (the other being yellow brick road)

I love this song. It's so illusory as it builds this gorgeously delicate air with the acoustic guitar and piano and then the words just flow and tie into the melody.

But the ending chorus is certainly my favorite when his voice just evolves into this raw and wrenching plead, "The only one".

this song makes me cry everytime, its so sweet and yes its cos of the hanunting beauty, his plee. It's beautiful. I love Angus and Julia Stone

Sensational...really makes me chilled to the core, in a good way of course. I agree with the comments above, its a very haunting song. The lyrics at the end always excite, such a well constructed song for easy listening with an edge to it.

this is on,e of my favorite from them i love this song the brigthness of simplicity. Can anybody explain to me what means: lets not fuck around ? Does it mean: lets go direct to the point?

I always thought this song was about finally surrendering and commiting to a relationship. He's wondering why he hasn't seen it before (I feel like a fool). He's willing to take the pain, he's willing to go through it all (draw your swords/shoot me to the groud), he finally realizes he doesn't really have a choice, he's in love, and he doesn't want to be with other people (You are mine, I am yours, let's not fuck around). They were probably just pretending to be fooling around with each other before, and just ended up hurting. It is a painful realization that they're made for each other, and nobody else exists for them any more. I really love the harshness of "Let's not fuck around" and the ending chorus, just so powerful!

My heart weeps whenever this song comes up. One of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time.
