Heartless Lyrics
Your kisses can't make this man work
Just a coat and gears and clockwork
An artificial heart will beat tonight
And nothing can make this man hurt
Lucky trait but makes him just work
A patent that's not guaranteed for life
Learn to love the heartless
I am so, so far from heartless
Tell me back, tell me back
There's no program yet,
But I tell you I think I'm in love
Is this really what makes me work?
Just a coat and gears and clockwork
I have a heart, I've made the beat my own
You can't lock me up for feeling
It's not murder, rape, or stealing
I have a love, a life, I have a home
And yet, still I'll end alone
Learn to love the heartless
I am so, so far from heartless
Tell me back, tell me back
There's no program yet,
But I tell you I think I'm in love
I covered(?) the (?)
All over the world
I'm finding that love is a choice
And not a law
Learn to love the heartless
I am so, so far from heartless
Tell me back, tell me back
Learn to love the heartless
I am so, so far from heartless
Tell me back, tell me back
There's no program yet,
But I tell you I think I'm in love

I honestly couldn't tell you what this song's about. The beginning makes it sound almost as if the narrator is a robot. An artificial man, who needs love just the same.
I dunno, but I love the song ^^
I submitted these lyrics a very long time ago, but I happened to come across this song again just looking through my iTunes. I think it's quite simple actually, well, the meaning of it that is to say. The narrator is saying that he feels like a robot, or if you want to be imaginative, then he's saying he is literally a robot. Haha. And because he's a robot, he doesn't understand the concept of love. It's not in his programming to be able to comprehend such a complex thing. Like the narrator says, this could be lucky that he...
Like the narrator says, this could be lucky that he can't understand love, but then the only purpose of his existence would be to work. In the chorus, the narrator seems to be speaking to someone and trying to tell them to love him because even though he may appear heartless, he's not, he's "so, so far from heartless," in fact. He apparently loves someone and he wants them to say that they love him, too, which he implies by saying, "tell me back, tell me back." He goes on to say, "there's no program yet, but I tell you I think I'm in love." Again, this is a reference to his "robotic", stoic state, but here, he's saying that even though he hasn't been programmed to be able to understand love that he legitimately thinks that he is in love. "I'm finding that love is a choice and not a law." This is basically saying that he thinks that love is something that everything can feel, even robots. Love is a choice of our being, not based on who or what we are. That's my take on it, I suppose. Hope this helps.
