I Hate Buffering Lyrics
Confidence blurred by arrogance
And the self-worship continues
Who is an artist?
You can't decide for yourself
Straight lines, I see straight lines
But they control sloppily, studpidly
Keep that golden, celebrity character to your own conscience
Take a breath and rest your jaw
A vertebrae with no spine
Our entertainment: a mockery
With every laugh and every joke the actor's lungs become more dense with damnation
Don't mistake my intentions for superiority, let's make that clear
This isn't right and the worst part is we're not pretending
Don't memorize these names
Eternally
This world will run dry and we'll watch the clock
We'll watch what we'll become
Don't memorize these names
Eternally
Take a breath and rest your jaw
A vertebrae with no spine
And the self-worship continues
Who is an artist?
You can't decide for yourself
Straight lines, I see straight lines
But they control sloppily, studpidly
Keep that golden, celebrity character to your own conscience
A vertebrae with no spine
With every laugh and every joke the actor's lungs become more dense with damnation
Don't mistake my intentions for superiority, let's make that clear
Don't memorize these names
Eternally
This world will run dry and we'll watch the clock
We'll watch what we'll become
Don't memorize these names
Eternally
A vertebrae with no spine

in a recent review [with shockhound, i believe] mike was talking about how so many bands are making music solely for the purpose of meeting girls and such, and how his main focus when composing their songs is not at all for that type of attention, and i think this song definitely touches on that aspect.
its a pretty straightforward song: people have perverted the meaning of being an artist and are using their 'celebrity character' for something more than just relaying their ideas to an audience. its become somewhat of a joke in some aspects, and for those who are 'not pretending' its difficult to be taken seriously like bands such as tdwp deserve to be. 'don't memorize these names' is clearly a nod to the fact that they want their music and their message to be the focus, rather than themselves.
this is what i've gotten out of it at least; maybe you guys have some different opinions.
musically, this song is incredible, beautifully intricate and brings the brutality of the bands talent that we all know and love.

@ Sirens... That's awesome that you can appreciate their message despite differences in faith or spirituality.
But I just wanted to say that I can guarantee that TDWP are not religious either.
In fact, if you're familiar with their previous albums, you would discover they are anti-religion.
As I am.
I think I can speak for them as we both believe that being religious is not the point of putting all our faith, hope and love in the only consistent thing in existence... God.
It sucks, but a lot of us who really pursue to love God in a real way, have to segregate ourselves from what you might know as a 'christian.' Especially the 'christians' you see on TV who offer miracles for money... Don't forget about the very name of this band... The Devil Wears Prada. Who do you think they are talking about... Satan himself? Or perhaps the liars and thieves dressed in Armani and Prada we see on TV proclaiming God's blessings in return for our money?
A lot of us describe true christianity as not a religion, but a true, real and loving relationship with God.
Anyways... I hope you find what you're looking for.
With love.
just had to say man, i agree with you 1000%. this is something that i've also realized recently. religion is worthless and dead, christ is love and is very much alive.

Yeah, the concept of "religion" tends to push away more people than it attracts. If Christianity was presented as what it really is, an intimate relationship with our creator who also happens to be the only being that can love us the way we want and need to be, I think people would be more inclined to at least listen to the message. Instead it's portrayed as a bunch of rules and a restricted lifestyle.

I believe this song is about how Artists are only making music to meet girls, as it was said before, and for fame and such. It's really sad. They want groupies, and not to express their art form or spread words of meaning. This is why I love Prada. ;] Originality. Sort of reminds me of Mindless Self Indulgence's "Mark David Chapman".
@tylon777 I do believe the band is full Christian, as it says in wikipedia, but what you are saying is quite true, especially that last sentence. It also states in wiki that the band got their name from a book being about anti-materialism, which is pretty much the subject in this and most of their other songs.
the name came from the novel, "The Devil Wears Prada". Which actually has nothing to do with the devil or anti-materialism. But they thought thats what it meant and they all really liked the name. So thats what they named the band. After they actually read the book, they wanted to change the name because they didnt like it anymore but by this time they were already known so they decided not to. No one in the band actually likes the name. mike said so in an AP mag interview lol but I mean, when they named the band, they...

I think he says " with every love and every choke become damnation" Or however you spell that, Doesn't make sence though lol And again, I think he says " jaw" instead of "tongue" I've been trying to figure this one out
Oh my bad I forgot to put "more tense with"

Basically, i think it says that we should be ashamed of wat the artists of today are promoting and that everybody listens to it and conforms to it... And that they keep blabbing on oh cool drugs sex and not on good dense deep stuff take a break and rest ur jaw a vertabrae with no spine that thier words are uselees - and their messages lead to hell (third paragraph) they saying their mesage is meant to be spread as good and wholesome and not to become popular
Although I'm not religious, the ammount of respect I have for these guys and what they're about is huuuge.
This song is awesome.
