Terminal Lyrics

Hey,
Flow the waterways of letting go
Another day...
Permanently allocate the maximum
And leave it to go...
Change,
And leave without a trace for her to know
A hollow day
Slow it down evenly paced, you've never known
And leave them alone

Hey,
Tell me there's a lot of ways I need to know
Another day,
Terminally out of phase and ill disposed
Just leave it alone

Sane,
You can teach a man better to view with loose control
Another way...
You pick your point, settle to be and let things go...
Just leave them alone...

Hey,
Tell me there's a lot of ways I need to know
Another day...
Terminally out of phase and ill disposed
Just leave them alone.

I met Devin, and I meant to ask him about this track as it's my favourite track he's ever done, bar none. Instead, I could only ask him about Trainfire. Don't ask me why, it just slipped my mind.

Anyway, what I can gather is this. The song is about letting go of a pretty serious moment of his life. Judging by the line "and leave without a trace for her to know," I'm going to guess that it's about a female; about a relationship. Following the flow of the song, I kind of feel like he's going flat out for whatever he's trying to let go. That is, he's dedicated his entire life to pursuing this relationship and making it work, ergo, why the song is called Terminal. In the second verse after the "Change" part, it's like he's asking for, and also giving, advice, while also reflecting upon the way he is after realising he needs to let it go.

"A hollow day." Obviously, after letting go of what he's held dear and as #1 priority, life doesn't feel all that great. But the advice follows. "Slow it down, evenly paced, you've never known" says to me that he never really found a rhythm while he was in this relationship, and now that he's dropped it kind of gets him into a groove he's never found before.

In the "Hey" verse, I believe he's asking for advice. "Tell me there's a lot of ways, I need to know." Though, after this lyric, he kind of shuts it all out: "Terminally out of phase," and "just leave it alone."

In the "Sane" verse, I believe he's implying that he wants people to step back. Make the point, let it go. Time will do the rest.

Though this is all speculation, and I'm only writing about a song.

Wow, no comments? This is probably my favorite song of the album. Makes me feel like I'm light as dust drifting in a vast white space.

Devin's lyrics are strange. They're just about things he encounters in life, but made cryptic enough that they could really apply to anyone's life. This song sort of consoled me when I was having a tough time in my love life. Basically, I knew I had to break things off, and it felt like I had a mountain to move. The first words, "hey... flow the waterways of letting go" set up the entire song for me. It made me feel like I was drifting through a dark river that was leading me to a place where I could be happier, and all I had to do was not struggle against the currents. Awesome.

@Ampulex_Compressa you're not too far off. this song is about masturbation. well the entire album is about his porn addiction so ya.
