Oblivion Lyrics

/I fear you...but I’m not afraid of you/
Father, where’s my gun?
Now that the war has begun
Let me go it alone
I need no one
Said I need no one
But oh god now here it comes and it’s too dark to (?) this gun
Now faster, faster, faster want to get out on the run
And I hear you say
‘Oh my stubborn son, just said you need no one
Don’t you see danger, danger, danger, heading to oblivion’
For all the hunt, far as I could
Through dozen weathers
??
And I took one shot, in the dark
Fired a bullet, Saw you ripped apart (?)
And god now here it comes and it’s too dark to (?) this gun
Now faster, faster, faster, wants to get out on the run
‘Oh my stubborn son, just said you need no one
Don’t you see danger, danger, danger, heading to oblivion’
Oblivion...
/Wait a second...have you come so far, for it to end like this?
This is the challenge...I dare you, to take a hold of that darkness from deep down within you/
Get back up, what are you so afraid of?
Show your face, face to me
Show you face, face to me
Be you my friend...
Or enemy?
Show your face
Face to me
And do not fear oblivion
Say I do not fear oblivion
Oblivion...
Father, where’s my gun?
I need no one
I need no one...

I'm sure it's "I hear you, but I am not afraid of you".

I love Tilda Swinton's contribution to the album. She makes an excellent voice of hope and reason.

it is, it's on the official lyric sheet

(I hear you...but I’m not afraid of you) Father, where’s my gun? Now that the war has begun Let me go it alone I need no one Said I need no one

But O God now here it comes and it’s too dark to aim this gun Now faster, faster, faster once again I'm on the run And I hear you say ‘Oh my stubborn son, I know that you said you need no one But don’t you see danger, danger, danger, headed to oblivion’

Followed the hunt, far as I could Through dozen weathers Petrified wood And I took one shot, in the dark Fired a bullet, silver to heart

But O God now here it comes and it’s too dark to aim this gun Now faster, faster, faster once again I'm on the run And I hear you say ‘Oh my stubborn son, I know that you said you need no one But don’t you see danger, danger, danger, headed to oblivion’

Oblivion...

(Wait a second...have you come so far, for it to end like this? This is the challenge...I dare you, to take a hold of that darkness from deep down within you! Get back up, what are you so afraid of?) [Okay...]

Show your face, face to me Show you face, face to me Be you my friend... Or enemy? Show your face Face to me

And do not fear oblivion Say I do not fear oblivion Oblivion... Father, where’s my gun? I need no one I need no one... Said I need no one.

Think it should be: "it's too dark to aim this gun"...

I agree with Mendax.

I also think that it's 'followed the hunt, far as I could' instead of 'for all the hunt, far as I could' and it could be 'once again I'm on the run', not 'wants to get out on the run'. I hear something about 'drifted wood' after 'through dozen weathers', but I'm not too sure about that one...

and it's clearly "I hear you, but I'm not afraid of you" instead of "I fear you"

It's so... violently clappable. I love it!

that ???? line sounds like "petrified wood" to me

My Interpretation

Lyric corrections:

But oh god now here it comes and it's too dark to aim this gun but Now faster, faster, faster, once again i'm on the run And I hear you say "Oh my stubborn son, I know that you said you need no one Don't you see danger, danger, danger, headed to oblivion?" Followed the hunt, far as I could Through dozen weathers Petrified wood And I took one shot, in the dark Fired a bullet, silver to heart

It's partly about a boy fighting in the Iraq war, and partly a reworking of 'The Barghest', a reference to killing the animal with a silver bullet, which is how you kill a werewolf.

I LOVE THIS SONG :D

I hear "I fear you, but I'm not afraid of you." as well. I remember in sunday school as a kid being taught the difference between "fearing" god and "being afraid of" god, and I'm pretty sure this is what he is referencing..."fear" is more profound...
