Love, love is like a stubborn youth
That you'd rather just deny
I'm walking on a broken roof
While I'm looking at the sky.

It's all false love and affection,
You don't want me, you just like the attention
Yes, it's all false love and affection,
You don't like me, you just want the attention.

I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy
I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy.

Love, love hides in a smoky light,
I can never find the truth
Boy, your touches leave me mystified
I wish I could believe in you.

Yes it's all false love and affection,
You don't want me, you just like the attention
Yes, it's all false love and affection,
You don't like me, you just want the attention.

I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy
I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy.

To me, this song didn't strike me as a gay relationship, or a boyfriend-girlfriend thing, but the usual thing of being messed around. But maybe that's because it's similar to what I'm going through at the moment. That's what I love about La Roux, it's so easy to relate to everything she writes. So this is what I think:

Your love is like a stubborn youth That you'd rather just deny

The guy (we'll say it's a to make it easy, but obviously it could be a girl) will not ever say that he loves her or let himself love her. He probably doesn't want to love, likes to be free and single.

I'm walking on a broken roof But I'm looking at the sky.

She's going through a lot of crap and confusion (the broken roof), which he's putting her through, and she knows it. Yet somehow, she still tries to fool herself that everything's great and will turn out alright (looking at the sky).

It's all false love and affection, You don't want me, you just like the attention Yes, it's all false love and affection, You don't like me, you just want the attention.

All the love and affection that he shows her isn't really true, he probably does like her a bit, but not enough. All the love and affection he shows her isn't because he loves her or wants to be with her - just because she's another girl he fancies a bit and he likes the attention she gives him.

I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy.

He's messing her around, and she thinks to herself 'i'm not your toy' because that's the way he treats her - she doesn't want to be just his toy to play around with when + how he feels like it. And although she might want it to be, she knows their situation isn't a true girl-meets-boy story, because to him she doesn't really mean anything. She's angry and upset about it and is indignant that she won't be his toy anymore, even though she knows she probably will.

Your love hides in a smoky night, I can never find the truth

He keeps everything mysterious and plays her hot and cold, so she never really knows the truth to how he feels about her.

Boy, your touches leave me mystified I wish I could believe in you.

She loves his touches but they also leave her with mixed feelings - she doesn't know what he means by them, and she wants so much to believe in him, to believe that she's important to him and his feelings for her are deep, but she knows she can't.

It's all false love and affection, You don't want me, you just like the attention Yes, it's all false love and affection, You don't like me, you just want the attention.

I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
