It’s about being judged in a new relationship by behaviour in pasts Because others won’t let it go. It’s a classic case of not listening to your partner but listening to others thoughts on the relationship. We all have relationships that fuck us up but for me I feel those are the Little pieces they can’t have because they weren’t their and it’s nit their story But forever being insecure about it or people around you over analyzing relationship a based on the partners past. For me I think he’s ready to move on let those pieces go cause he feels complete but by the end of the song the crowd has got too much for him and it’s never gonna work because she’s not trusting and listening to him but other people and trying to turn him into something he’s not. Bad relationship make us who we are we can’t change the person we love because of them. It’s sad cause by the end of the song I think she’s the last piece that’s fallen away and now he’ll never be complete.

Well, I am just shocked no one's commented on this song! It's one of the best ones of the album along with "Airstream Driver"

This might sound dense but I think this about a man in a relationship ruled by bickering and fighting and in the song he's just finally freeing himself her and it all, bit by bit?

Or it could mean there's a part of himself that he keeps from her about she does her best to figure what it is though she'll never find out.

I agree with you but I also think there is the idea that whats in the past is in the past and it might make up who you are - it is one of your pieces - but at the end of the day you dont need to carry all of that around with you - "little pieces that have been left behind". Just let them all go - "pile of ash you dont need".

And when you let them all go thats when you are most "complete" - happy with who you are as you are now.

really good song. as you go through life you meet many people and take part in many things, all of which impact and shape you as a person. when you look at your possessions it brings back all those memories as if that hockey stick, that t-shirt, that art project are all pieces of you. some of them probably got left behind as you grew up. it reminds me of a couple other songs. musically it's very similar to "the end" by the doors, and lyrically it's like "fall to pieces" by velvet revolver.

this is the song that first got me hooked on Gomez. I love it.
