Fading Lyrics

It starts with wanting to fit in
Addictions slowly set in
I drift often into dismay
Eyes looking back at me
I can't even see your face
Aggression is closing in
Its taking me again

Wait its all that I can take
And every single day a part of my soul is fading
But now by letting go somehow
I'm tackling and I'm bound
I'm calling out your name I'm fading
So save me from what I've become

Its like a force thats pulling you
These empty promise eyes are true
Eyes looking back at me
I can't even see your face
Aggression is closing in
Its taking me again

Wait its all that I can take
And every single day a part of my soul is fading
But now by letting go somehow
I'm tackling and I'm bound
I'm calling out your name I'm fading
So save me from what I've become

Wait I'm just about to break
Help me see the way
I shattered into pieces on the floor

Wait its all that I can take
And every single day a part of my soul is fading
But now by letting go somehow
I'm tackling and I'm bound
I'm calling out your name I'm fading

Oh wait its all that I can take
And every single day a part of my soul is fading
But now by letting go somehow
I'm tackling and I'm bound
I'm calling out your name I'm fading

So save me from what I've become

"tackled and bound"?!? Are you kidding me?!? It's "unshackled and unbound" as in getting rid of the chains and breaking free. And that's only one misinterpritation. That part of the song was misinterpreted. It's "but now I'm letting go somehow, unshackled and unbound"

this song general means that we fade away from God from all the addiction we face everyday. When we are sunk to deep in our addiction we cry out for God to save us from the monster we have become Other wise this is a good song

I always took this song to be about fighting an addiction to self image. (I noticed there's some debate about what the lyrics are so I've used my own interpretation. Sorry if it annoys you.)

"It starts with one time to fit in" could, for example, be a person convinced one little part of their body, like their nose, is the wrong shape so they go to get a rhinoplasty and it makes them happy for a little while. But then they think some other parts of them are ugly, so they go back again and again: "Addiction slowly setting in". And each time they just get more miserable and convinced they're ugly, "I drifted off into dismay".

Now to the pre-chorus. The "Eyes looking back at me" could belong to those who notice how unhappy the person is, friends, family and boyfriends (or girlfriends; men aren't immune to low self esteem). And "I can't even see your face" might be that all these people who care about the person can't see who they are any more because they hide themselves under make-up or baggy clothes and don't allow themselves to open up. "Aggression is closing in" could be the person's reaction when their problem gets really bad and others try to tell them they need help.

I think the chorus is self-explanatory - the person hits rock bottom and is desperate to not feel the way they do any longer. They can't save themselves so they cry out to someone who cares to save them.

"It's like a force that's pulling you" could be a line trying to encompass the massive power that low self esteem has over someone, and "Its empty promise hides the truth" could refer to the beauty industry and its shows and magazines telling people that they need to buy lotions and kits to look good.

Again with the pre-chorus, the "Eyes" could be a person's own eyes as they look in a mirror, trying to find the beauty there that other people say they have but they just can't see for themselves. The "Aggression" could be directed at themselves as their self-hate grows to a level they can't control.

Back to the chorus. I think the line is "Unshackled and unbound" and I think on its own it can generally mean a person breaking free from their torment. But I read a story one time about an anorexic girl who was so in denial about her weight that a hospital had to strap her down and force feed her. She eventually started to eat on her own, so they took her straps off. I think that line would definitely be fitting for her.

I think the song captures all aspects of self image and can be interpreted to be talking about cosmetic surgery, make-up, tanning, slimming, fashion, etc. I love the album's cover, of the crash test dummy's head shattering. I think its an amazing metaphor for a person in this situation, as that might be how they feel or even what they want to happen so they don't have to think anymore. It fits well with the bridge, especially the lines "Wait, just about to break" and "I'm shattering to pieces on the floor".

The first time I listened to this song I got tears in my eyes. It's just such a powerful song, and one of my all time favorites, though it took me a long time to figure out why. I gave it to my friends to listen to and they all said they thought it was really depressing. They may have a point but I think the core message is a hopeful one. I always like to imagine that the very last time "I'm fading" is sung, its a person's demons that are fading, leaving them to be free.

Both verses here are screwed up:

[V1] It starts with one time to fit in Addiction's slowly setting in I drifted off into dismay Eyes looking back at me I can't even see your face The pressure is closing in Its taking me again

[V2] Its like a force thats pulling you It's empty promises are true Eyes looking back at me I can't even see your face The pressure is closing in Its taking me again

And it does sound like tackled and bound, but im pretty sure i could make him out saying unshackled and unbound...thats the only thing that makes sense anyway

I think "I'm calling out to name I'm fading" sounds more like "I'm calling out Your name I'm fading".. and "I'm tackling them down" should probably be "I’m tackled and I’m bound"

I think you are right - I definitely hear "I'm tackled and I'm bound" and "I'm calling our Your name, I'm fading"... thanks for posting the clear up :) - GREAT SONG! They remind me of Fuel

I thought it said unshackled and unbound????

It's "I'm shackled and I'm bound"... I think... I'm pretty sure though.

s2adams fixed all the mistakes in the lyrics. And it is definitely "unshackled and unbound"... that's common sense using the context, and besides, it sounds exactly like those words. I just listened to the chorus in loop like 40 times (biblical reference lol)

hmm, i hear "i'm shackled and i'm bound" which actually fits in with that part of the song because he's telling how he's basically losing himself and who he used to be and he's asking God to come and save him from who has has become, so shackled and bound makes sense to me, because only God can free you from that.

at any rate, i love, love, love this song <3 amazing band (:

HALLELUJAH!! GOD IS MIGHTY TO SAVE!!

Very amazing song. It means so much. It's saying we want to fit in with the "Cool" crowd. We try to do whatever we can for people to like us. Soon enough we start getting angry, we can't even see God. We wonder why couldn't we fit in with the "Cool" people.

Then he says it's enough hes ready to give up what hes been doing and run to God. That by letting go of living the way he was he was "Unshackled and unbound". Then he is calling for God to save him from the mess he made.

Anyway it is a very amazing song. It means a lot to me, cause I have been finding that it's cooler to live for God, and to know where you are going. Rather then live for evil. Anyway I'm pretty sure he says "Unshackled and unbound" not "I'm tackling and I'm bound". God bless.

exactly, its also about the fact that you need to be yourself, not to just try and please everyone else, cause if you do try you probably will fail because its all an act, and you will lose what you once where. you will be lost.

it is also about addictions.
