London Lyrics
I waste away the days
Waiting on a new age
But time betrays me
And I get older one more year
Walk London's windy streets
He waits for me at home
But I wonder the secrets
That only cobble stones hold
Only the cobble stones know
And I've never been so sure
That after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never come
They never come
Got a knife-throwing kind of love
But your silence cuts the deepest
And I know I've made a mess of things
And I'm sorry for all that
Wish we could get the time back
'Cause I've never been so sure
That after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never come
Wait for it
Wait for it
Earth will turn when we're gone
So we pray that Heaven waits on us
But the wolves howl to the Moon
And she never answers back
No, she never answers back
But after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never -- never been so sure
That after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never come
I waste away the days
Waiting on a new age
Waiting on a new age
But time betrays me
And I get older one more year
He waits for me at home
But I wonder the secrets
That only cobble stones hold
Only the cobble stones know
That after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never come
They never come
But your silence cuts the deepest
And I know I've made a mess of things
And I'm sorry for all that
Wish we could get the time back
That after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never come
Wait for it
Wait for it
So we pray that Heaven waits on us
But the wolves howl to the Moon
And she never answers back
No, she never answers back
Is that heavenly creatures never -- never been so sure
That after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never come
Waiting on a new age

I cannot help but think this is an ode to her clandestine relationship with Third Eye Blind frontman, Stephan Jenkins. They are both lyrical geniuses that I, as a fan, have always considered to be cut from the same artistic cloth. When Vanessa sings "You've got a knife-throwing kind of love, but your silence cuts the deepest" it conjures images of a long term relationship coming to a head. And I can't shake the connection that 3EB also recorded a song called "London" about two people who weren't seeing eye to eye on the status of their lives together.
beautiful
Just beautiful! Her new material can never come fast enough. Its a song about time, how time will pass us by when were here on earth and when were gone, and whatever we do we'll never get it back.
Very pretty song :) Are you sure it's not "But I wanna know the secrets that only cobblestones hold"? I wouldn't be surprised if the lyrics on here are correct because she often uses odd phrasings, but it sounds like "wanna know" on the recording I have and you can't really wonder secrets, you wonder 'about' them, you know? :)
"go anywhere but home; 'cause i'm looking for the secrets that only cobblestones hold; only the cobblestones know as written on the official album booklet. :)
"go anywhere but home; 'cause i'm looking for the secrets that only cobblestones hold; only the cobblestones know as written on the official album booklet. :)
Also, the new lyrics are:
"Now I'm staring at the sun As if, there's a riddle I'm not in on Cause the wolves howl to the moon But she never answers nack No, she never answers back"
I wonder if this has to do with questioning religion? "so we pray heaven waits for us, but the wolves howl to the moon and she never answers back?"
I think this song is about trying to maintain your innocence through your life. I also think it is specifically about re-finding your innocence after a break-up. That though this man or woman has broken her and proven that life isn't always good, and that heavenly creatures aren't there for her, she'll never learn that and she's always going to believe in purity and magic. Such an amazing song, it always makes ME feel good!
Its about getting older, when your birthday has come and passed, and you are one year older and you find yourself thinking about everything you have learn in your life and try to use it to you current situation.
