I Am the Rain Lyrics
I am the rain
Held in disdain
Lotions and potions just add to my fame
They rhyme that in Spain
I fall on the plane
The truth is I'm ruthless, I can't be contained
I'm the rain
My friend the wind
with breath he is twinned
he'll blow high or low high tornadoes to spin
My mother the cloud
in widows black shroud
Gives birth to the earth before fields can be ploughed
Up in the sky
we've demand to supply
I am necessity
Base of the recipe
I'm the rain
My cousin the snow
lays blankets below
states that her flakes are but threads to be sown
My rival the sun
who ripens the plum
is feared an revered he gives sight to the gun
I am the rain
Held in disdain
The truth is I'm ruthless, I can't be contained
Held in disdain

i think the weather is metaphors for people's personality, he's taking us through his family or maybe babyshambles?
I still have to work on this one, but regarding to the "They rhyme that in Spain" line, I'm from Spain and there's this rhyme, I'm quite sure it's also known abroad: "La lluvia en Sevilla es una maravilla" ("Rain in Seville is a wonder"). I think that line is either just Peter being witty or contradicting the idea of rain as a good thing or a gentle phenomenon with the line "The truth is I'm ruthless, I can't be contained".
I think they got this lyric wrong. "They rhyme that in Spain" i think it is actually "The Rhineland and Spain" Rhineland is an area in Germany along the Rhine river.
No, it's right. The 'rhyme' is, "The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plains" in English.

So it's, "They rhyme that in Spain I fall on the plain"

Also, it's "Based off the recipe" and "Stateside" not "states that"

In my opinion, ''I am the rain'' I feel he is referring to himself and rain can come and go whenever. It's uncontrollable and we complain about it all the time, but the rain is needed and it does have good beneficial qualities. His friend the wind, the wind keeps us cool, but is also the source of tornadoes. If you ask me I feel like he's just trying to say that there is a bad and good side to everything, but we should start focusing more on the good.
I am necessity, based on the recipe.
This is the key to the song.
The concept of the relationship between the different elements being like other personalities is very correct. But what does that mean? That would be really shallow to just talk about that.
What he's showing is: The different elements create a byproduct. He is the byproduct of all these influences just as rain is the byproduct of all the physical elements.
