jordan alexander actually said about this song "I started this when I was living in Oakland, working in San Francisco. I wasn't exactly treating myself well. There's a park in San Francisco and a beautifully filthy lake in Oakland. Those two places really inspired the imagery. There's some dark humor in this one. Never felt it was an angry song. We recently played it in San Jose and got booed and flipped off. A great reaction for a simple song written on a bad day four years ago."
@jackieg39 I was at that show! It was at the SJSU event center if I'm not mistaken. They were opening for The Killers on their Day & Age tour. I listened to Wild Light to prep for the show and fell in love with their album. I was so bummed when the crowd booed during that song. It's such a banger. Nevertheless, they played a great set. I still listen to Adult Nights all the time. It's a shame they didn't continue on to make more records. Their first is a classic, in my opinion.

WHAT? One comment? Come on this song rocks! I think it's about a couple and she wants to move to California and he doesn't want to go, therefore they break-up. Then later he relized what he lost and feels angry, but also sad for losing her..

When I listen to this song it makes me think of the deceitful SF Bay Area weather. It's California. Hot? Sunny? Flat Sandy expanses? no no no :) It's cold, misty and hilly as hell. I live on Lake Michigan and I like to think that we have these amazing summers that no one knows about and everyone goes to California for them (San Fran being the exception). I know this can't possibly be the meaning, but I'd love to hear these guys are from the Great Lakes area and have experienced the midwest summer and are just hating on the bay area weather. As a side note, San Francisco is my favorite city in the country and I'm hoping to go to Berkeley for grad school, so I always feel a little guilty singing along to this song haha
Such a simple song but it has helped me in so many situations. I like changing California, San Fransisco, and Oakland to the name of my school, the town my school is in, and the town i live in :D
I burned this song for my ex girlfriend because I told her I didn't love her while on summer vacation with her in California. Two years later I realize I never gave her a chance and I want her back.
