I Couldn't Love You Lyrics
It may be man-made
But it must exist
It's what you want the most
And most resist
Love's polluted
No, no, it's pure
It's convoluted
One thing I could say for sure
Is I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
It's a game of fetch
We'll never win
You throw me out
It brings us back
You throw me out again
Love's an affliction
No, it's a cure
It's a contradiction that harms and heals
Adores and abhors
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
Love is a tangent
Yeah, Love is an interlude
Love is an instant
Not now, dear, I'm not in the mood anymore
No, no, no, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
It's no big deal
It's not worth losing sleep
You over-analyze
The simplest things
Love's what you take
But can never give
Love's what you hate
You'll never figure out what it's for
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
I couldn't love you anymore
But it must exist
It's what you want the most
And most resist

Oh yeah, the double meaning I think is intended, Kasher loves wordplay. I love the intro to this song, and it definitely reminds me of Happy Hollow in a good way.
This album is really growing on me, but I think this is my favorite track as of right now along with "Caveman." I really like how a theme in this cd is going back to nature and almost primitivism with sex, de-evolution, and lack of emotion.
any more? anymore?
tim must have meant to do this..makes the song even better.
An amazing song, probably better than anything off of Happy Hollow, up there with the best of Ugly Organ & Domestica. It's so good to hear that Cursive still got it and then some.
Something interesting I just realized: This could be, "I couldn't love you anymore" or, "I couldn't love you any more." Opposite meanings. Maybe intentional, maybe I'm reading too much into it. But it seems like a conflicted song, and they made sure to leave that word off the title.
I completely agree. I do think the vague lyrics are intentional. It's really one of those songs where you can interoperate it to how it's relevant to you. I couldn't love you anymore- as in the abundance of love you have for someone. Or I couldn't love you anymore- as in I can't love you any longer.

It could be:
I couldn't love you any more I couldn't love you anymore I couldn't love you any more I couldn't love you anymore
I love this song. Especially when he sings, "Not now, dear, I'm not in the mood anymore." It's such a perfect climax and the sounds...
Yeah I agree with the whole double meaning thing especially since he says
No, no, no, no, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Great song
Wow, didn't think of the double meanings... But I thought of it as 'anymore.' Being tired of the push-and-pull, and unrequited love. In this case, I was wondering who he's talking of when he sings, "You over-analyze..." Is he referring to himself, or his ex? I'm guessing it's him, since he's losing sleep, but just wanted to be sure.
if anyone is interested, i've taken the time to copy the "lyric book" for "Mama, I'm Swollen" so people can actually try and find it on the internet... i only have it on facebook right now, and i know that theres a few minor mistakes, but become a fan! heres the link:
