I've got a new disease in me
I've got a friend that's losing sleep
I take it hard, it's hard to take
I'm wide-awake, I'm wide-awake

One more confession, discretion's not what I need to sell
I never needed a reason for keeping secrets from myself
and now, that's just how I tell I'm wide-awake

I'll wreck this if I have to
Tell me, what good would that do
I'll wreck this if I have to

You get separated, somebody's gone
and I don't know how this is wrong
I'm so frustrated, falling behind
You were a friend of mine

I'd be so good to you
Because they don't know you like I do
They don't know you like I do
They don't know you like I do
They don't know you like I do

There's a difference from me to them
And the road home is paved in star fuckers requiem
I could never go
Go back home again
Acadia is gone

All my indecision, all of my excess
don't you ever tell me I'm not loving you best
I just need a minute, I just need a breath
It's very hard to drink to my continued success
And I will slow down,
It's better in the worst way
It's getting better in the worst way

So here's another day
I'll spend away from you
another night I'm on another broken avenue
Trading in who I've been for shiny celebrity skin
I like to push it and push it until my luck is over

I wonder what you're doing
I wonder if you doubt it
I wonder how we used to ever go so long without it
All that works to impress
Charming girls out of their dresses smiling pretty

I'm right beside you
What you want, what you need
I'll make this perfect again
If I burn out and slip away
You're beautiful, you are

I've been here so very long
And I can slip into you
It's so easy to come back into you
I'll hide it, can I hide in you a while?
I'm not sick of you yet
Is that as good as it gets
I never took you for a trick but sometimes, I don't know what you want
I could take it if you need to take this out on someone

If this is just a part i portray
I don't know how it got this way

    My Interpretation

One definitely has to go through their album to truly soak in everything that this song is about, and indeed, it's truly a masterpiece and an epic round off to their album, without sounding cheesy or boring at all. I'm loving the band, the album, the songs and everyone else who thinks just like me. You're cool too.

Song Meaning: He's in love and she knows it cos he said it. She's in love, and he sort of knows it, but she doesn't tells him. She's spending time with another person and they both know it, but nothing that he can do but to go along. Everytime she does, he's hurt, but it's something he accedes to accept as part of this relationship. He's right beside her yet so distant cos he can't hold her, and she yearns for him to hold her but she can't tell him. He's hoping that this will somehow end, and wishing for a closure, but just can't seem to reach at it. He treats her well and she treats him well, but they just can't be together. He's in too deep to back out, and he hasn't a clue what's next in this relationship. Neither does she.

That's it guys and girls, and for a beautifully composed masterpiece, this song deserves more than it's share of 8 comments. ITHe song arrangement brings us through the course of the relationship where it begins with plenty of mystery and excitement and start-stop heartbeats, before rushing and ending sophorically. Then it reignites into a new life of its own and ends with a cliffhanger. Brilliant song.

This song is like the grand finale of the entire album. I love how it recaps the songs and restates the lines that have already been said, yet in a different way. I was pleasantly surprised. I was really excited to see "I never took you for a trick but sometimes I don't know what you want. I can take it if you need to take this out on someone" line from Say Anything making a cameo.

As for its meaning? I think it's just summing up the general theme of the band's music; loneliness, confusion, desperation, and want.

this song is so good because i couldn't have been easy to put all those songs into one and still making it sound good... its a really good ending to the cd. Plus this song is different, its like all suspenseful and you dont really know whats gonna happen but then there is like other instruments... but then after a while it goes into the guitar rock stuff you would be expecting but then all of a sudden it completely switches! then its very scary sounding then starts to recap the beginning and finally breaks off into all of the guys singing at different times which sounds extremely cool, especially when its a Capella. i think they should sing like that more ofte, but not too much because the instruments also make everything sound amazing

this is one of my favourite songs by them .. well one of my favourite songs in general. i love how it takes lines from the songs on the album (as well from Say Anything) and puts it into one ending of the album. i love the lines "i take it hard, it's hard to take" and "all my indecision, all of my excess don't you ever tell me I'm not loving you best" !

just a correction : it's "it's very" not "you're very hard to drink to etc. etc."

Say Anything is my other favourite song by them. and can't forget Lover Dearest :]

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
