Acadia Lyrics

In the house I grew up in
My room in the basement
The hours turning
To years we've spent
Remember Chris in the back yard
Laughing so damn hard
And no one knew why
But the rest is forgotten

Behind me
Sometimes it reminds me
Of when we, we used to
Belong here

Every memory comes on
When I hear that old song
We used to sing
With the words all wrong
I remember the faces
And familiar places
And I sing along
But Acadia is gone

Ran out of gas on the highway
We walked there and I gave
Drunken speeches on sobriety
Now we've all moved away and
Somehow became men
But I remember where it began at

Behind me
Sometimes it reminds me
Of when we, we used to
Belong here

Every memory comes on
When I hear that old song
We used to sing
With the words all wrong
I remember the faces
And familiar places
And I sing along
But Acadia is gone

Remember when 1712
Acadia road fell
They tore the house down

Every memory comes on
When I hear that old song
We used to sing
With the words all wrong
I remember the faces
And familiar places
And I sing along
But Acadia is gone
Acadia is gone

In the house I grew up in
Remember the faces
When Andrew and I wrecked
Each other's cars and

Acadia is, Acadia is gone

This song is plainly about growing up, and having the things of your childhood and adolescence slowly wither away and die out. You grow out of things, places get closed down, things fall apart, and some friends aren't as important as they once were to you.

It all brings forth the feeling of revisiting the past and enjoying the nostalgia of it.

I totally agree, and it reminds me so much of the town I am currently growing up in. It makes me sad and happy at the same time, and little bit scared for the future. Becuase I grew up in the basement, and it's actually really interesting to think that this song is about HIS childhood.

this song was amazing live!!!

Such a good song, <3

Also, I googled 1712 Acadia Road (Yes, road, not the country, as I was thinking also.) It's in Vancouver, British Columbia, btw.

He's talking about how they tore his old house down, and there were lots of memories there.

Indeed :) I pass Acadia Road every day in Vancouver.

At the Marianas Trench concert. Josh said that this song is about how he grew up and about his life when he was younger.

Ok question, why does he reference Acadia. If anyone understands the Canadian history and the role Acadia played in it... if anyone catches this meaning I was wondering why he refrences the country of Acadia?

My Opinion

actually, acadia road is AN ACTUAL road in vancouver...its by the university. it is most likely were he grew up.

1712 acadia road fell, they tore the house down.

Yes, Acadia road is in North Vancouver. Josh grew up there and even went to University Hill Elemtary there. 1712 is the actual adress where he lived.

Okay, that makes more sense, I wasn't sure if it was directed at an even in history, but that makes more sense, I still love the song!

My Opinion

this song is very touching to me. its about change and growing up. as marianastrenchfan said this song makes me scared for the future also.

i think the lyrics "sometimes it remindes me of when we, we used to belong hear." sums up the meaning of the song for me.

You grow up, and out of things, and when you see a picture or something, all the memories flood back. you wish those days were here again, but you know that things can never be like that again.

very touching, one of my favourite mtrench songs.
