Homeward Bound Lyrics
He's waiting at the station
He's not taking any trains
He's a kid from Colorado
Counting raindrops in the drain,
He's sleeping in the tunnel
He's not edging towards the vent
He's a lonesome river swimmer
Wonderin' where the river went.
Whose gonna carry him down?
Whose gonna carry him down?
One more turnaround
And he'll be homeward bound
Whose gonna carry him, carry him down?
There's a landlord on the benches
There's a posse on the train
There's an angel up in heaven
Who forgot somebody's name.
Whose gonna carry him down?
Whose gonna carry him down?
One more turnaround
And he'll be homeward bound
Whose gonna carry him, carry him down?
One more turnaround
And he'll be homeward bound
Whose gonna carry him, carry him down?
He's not taking any trains
He's a kid from Colorado
Counting raindrops in the drain,
He's sleeping in the tunnel
He's not edging towards the vent
He's a lonesome river swimmer
Wonderin' where the river went.
Whose gonna carry him down?
One more turnaround
And he'll be homeward bound
Whose gonna carry him, carry him down?
There's a posse on the train
There's an angel up in heaven
Who forgot somebody's name.
Whose gonna carry him down?
One more turnaround
And he'll be homeward bound
Whose gonna carry him, carry him down?
And he'll be homeward bound
Whose gonna carry him, carry him down?

is this a cover??
No, it's not a cover. It's from his new album, "Changing Horses."
The song, I think, is about a teen runaway. He's from Colorado and now he's sleeping in some train station, somewhere. It's such a sad, beautiful song.
I realize its on his new album I just didn't know if he was covering someone elses song. I saw the Felice Brothers last month and the guy who opened sang this song which is why I questioned it.
I think the runaway has died and his body is to be reunited with his family in colorado, hence homweard bound. I think the phrase "carry him down" refers to pall bearers. It's a really beautiful song.
The song is actually called Waiter At The Station. It was written by Jemima James, and is best known for being sung by her son, Willy Mason, who supported Kweller at some gigs a few years ago.

Apparently it was inspired by a body found at a railway station. The Colorado reference may be significant, as Mrs James lives on Martha's Vineyard, and it is common for itinerant tourism workers to summer on the island, and winter in the ski resorts of Colorado.
