I can tell
I can tell
How much you hate this
Deep down inside
You know it's killing me
I can call, wish you well
And try to change this
But nothing I can say
Would change anything

Where were my senses?
I left them all behind
Why did I turn away, away?

I wish I could save you
I wish I could say to you
I'm not going nowhere
I wish I could say to you
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright

I didn't mean
Didn't mean
To leave you stranded
Went away 'cause I
Didn't want to face the truth
Reaching out
Reach for me
Empty handed
You don't know if I care
You're trying to find the proof

There were times I'd wonder
Could I have eased your pain?
Why did I turn away, away?

I wish I could save you
I wish I could say to you
I'm not going nowhere
I wish I could say to you
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright

We can pretend nothing's changed
Pretend it's all the same
And there will be no pain
Tonight
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright

I'm not going nowhere
I wish I could say to you
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright

Stinaisrad22, what you need to realize is - the beauty about songwriting is that every song written can be interpreted in a thousand different ways, but only the songwriter knows the true meaning of the song. Not everyone has access to the songwriter's myspace page, however. And even if everyone did, I don't think the songwriter necessarily wants EVERYONE to know the complete meaning of a song... sometimes they want to leave a song unexplained, in order to keep people guessing about the meaning of the song. So we mainly interpret songs drawing from our personal experiences, because that's what is readily available to us as an interpreting tool. Does that make anyone's interpretations any less valid, even if we ask the songwriter and the songwriter explicitly breaks the song down word-by-word to us?

I agreed with the people who stated the song is about experiencing a feeling of remorse for having walked away from a self-destructive person that means a lot to you, although I didn't necessarily think it was a "boyfriend"... it could very well be a friend or a family member. But now, and knowing the songwriter's interpretation, I can also see the message that the songwriter was originally conveying.

    My Interpretation

this is such an amazing song. i've had the CD for a while and i only realised how amazing the song really is today...

in my head i imagine a girl being rejected because she was depressed and ended up taking drugs and doing stuff to/with guys. the girl is in hospital. the girl's friends feel really bad for turning their backs on the girl and being bitches when she needed friends the most. they just wish they could have been there for her when she was depressed instead of her turning to drugs and random flings.

I'm shocked Kelly didn't write this. It sounds so similar to Because Of You lyrically. Aimee Proal is great as well.. The way I took it is the guy she is with has emotional problems..maybe with alcohol and drugs as well. She couldn't handle it and walks away wishing she could do more, but realizes this is the best way she can help him.

really? i thought it was completly opposite from because of you. here she wishes she could have helped him out, and not have abadoned him when he needed her most. because of you is more like he left and hurt her. or at least that's my intepretation.

I agree with upshegoes... she looks back and wishes she could've saved whoever the song is directed to. She couldn't handle the situation so she turned and walked away, and now she wonders if things could've been different (better maybe) if she had stayed.

    Song Meaning

Sorry guys, this song is NOT about a guy. If you go to the songwriter's myspace page and asked her you would know that. She wrote this song for a friend who lost her mom of cancer. Aimee was in LA and wanted her friend back home in Massachusetts to know she was still thinking about her and wanted to be there for her, so she wrote this song. If you listen to the lyrics now knowing this, it will make much more sense to you.

this song represents everything that me and my best friend went through a couple of years back. So, this is how I think of it. It's about a friend who is depressed/going through heartbreak or some other issue and they're trying to help them but the friends being self destructive (cutting, being irresponsible maybe?) so they give up on them because they feel there's nothing they can do to save them, but they wish they could.

I turned my back on my friend for this reason and I've promised myself not to do it again, since she's depressed again now :/ even though theres nothing I can do to save her, I'm not trning my back.

This mid-tempo rock ballad is a demo from the now-disbanded group Gone 'Til November. Singer-songwriter Aimèe Proal, who fronted Gone 'Til November, co-wrote the song with One Republic's Ryan Tedder.

Tedder told Digital Spy that this song about a girl escaping from a lover with a self-destructive streak, features an experimental bridge inspired by Mozart.

So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness". The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns) There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
