Without Love Lyrics

All in nature ends in tragedy and I was the first to finally fade away from my grandfather’s memories. How long ‘til the day my memories of him finally fade away? Dissolving into gray. Is breathing just the ticking of an unwinding clock? Just counting down the time it takes for you to comprehend the sheer magnitude of every single precious breath you’ve ever wasted? I did everything I could. I bargained with the universe to take my life instead of hers. But no amount of money, drugs or tears could keep her here. What purpose did her suffering serve? Is breathing just the ticking of an unwinding clock? Just counting down the time it takes for you to comprehend the sheer magnitude of every single precious breath you’ve ever wasted? So much misery. So much indifference to so much suffering that we can become tempted by appeals to hatred. But this world ain’t nothing more than what we make of it. Revenge ain’t no solution to the inevitable pain that every single one of us must face in losing the kindred spirits in our lives. Lives so brief, so disappointing, so confusing. As Cronie slipped away I held her in my arms, reduced to “Please don’t leave me. What will I do?” But this cosmic sadness is just here to remind you that without Love, breathing is just the ticking of...

I absolutely can't stand people who dismiss an album as 'emo', especially something as important as Propagandhi.

There's so much said here, I couldn't imagine dismissing it so easily, and it irks me that people do. "Oh no, he's talking about raw human emotion that's extremely real and terrifying, not partying, doing drugs and drinking beer?! EMO!" Not to mention, I wouldn't dream of using the same word to describe it as you would Dashboard Confessional or Thursday...

Too true. When Chris Hannah speaks I listen.

when i was at their show and they played this their was these 2 people standing at the front of the stage and in between songs they would yell out"emo" "sellouts" and other absurd statements, and ,but they soon experienced the repercussions of screaming those profanities in a mosh pit that was full of loyal fans.

Memory

What's funny about calling them emo in this day, as if Support Caste "sold out," is that this album is more like Less Talk More Rock than Ashes and Potemkin.

I'm glad that story had a happy ending, JoshGnosis. :p

Yes Cronie the cat but it's also about so much more than that. Anyone with any feeling can identfy with this song.

I can see it's about more than that, but the motivation to write the song presumably was inspired by him 'losing' his cat. "I bonded with the universe to take my life instead of hers" seriously!? I mean seriously!? It's a fucking cat!!!! I identified with this song because i thought it was about person he'd lost. A living breathing person, who can speak with you, who you can build a relationship with. I guess i must be someone without feeling then. Loved this band for so many years. Literary can't listen to them anymore.

I think that whilst this song obviously muses on emotional connections and loss and love in a general sense it links it to how these feelings are then used as a reason for wars. Its a subject that propagandhi have expressed opinions about before, but they seem to clarify it here. I kinda see it as an extension of that sentiment in 'name and address witheld' where he describes dead americans as 'the executioners willing citizens' and 'i'm so sorry, but i'm trying to think it through'. When the towers came down, when terrorist bombs kill loved ones, these emotionally painful times are prime for governments to expolit their people and call for revenge and payback. But if we were to turn to each other in these confusing times it might strengthen our ties at a ground level rather than turning to 'powers swinging fists' to fulfill our heat-of-the-moment cries for the score to be settled. 'This world aint nothing more than what we make of it'.

@Rafiq Beautiful words, fellow being! :´)

To my surprise, kutterk is right. Well, partly. I think the song as a whole is about how experiencing loss makes you think about your own mortality, and the importance of giving yourself a purpose in life. He talks also about how loss can lead to anger and temptations of revenge, but "Revenge ain't no solution to the inevitable pain that every single one of us must face in losing the kindred spirits in our lives." True story, Hannah.

Anyway, kickass song, I would argue one of Propagandhi's best.

I have to agree. This song is filled with personal experience and intensity that exists only in an actual experience. You can't feel the way he feels when he sings this song unless you've felt that cosmic sadness; it runs deep.

its about chris's cat Cronie died recently

Is that true? I wondered who cronie was. I'm surprised he has a cat. But I don't think the whole song is about cronie anyway. Or his grandfather. Those painful experiences bring other thoughts to mind of the world at large.

This song is about how great losses should serve as a reminder as to how precious life really is

This song is pretty self-explanitory. "Cronie" was Chris' cat, named after the singer of the band Venom, Cronos.

He wrote it about Cronie. But to me, It's pretty obvious that Cronie was like Chris' child, and part of his family. He's also relaying how easy and appealing it is to turn to hatred and to try to place blame when these painful things happen. We all face in losing the kindred spirits that we depend on everyday, and it's up to us to breathe each breath to the fullest with these people, because they are just GONE one day. They don't float up on a cloud and wait for you with other family members. They are gone. Permanently.
