Donkey Kosh Lyrics

With a donkey on my shoulder,
And a jackal on my back,
I'll carry these, my children,
Keep them safe from attack

The donkey makes it hard to dance, the jackal sings too loud
The donkey cries when it's alone, and the jackal is too proud

Little donkey is getting restless,
Getting heavier as it grows
And the jackal, spoiled and spiteful,
Keeps biting at my nose

I would have a lover,
A husband, and a child
But the donkey is too jealous,
And the jackal is too wild

It's too wild

You ask me why I keep them,
Why I love them so,
Why they get away with murder,
As they grow and grow and grow, oh

I keep them cos I made them,
They come from in my loins
With each mistake I make
Creative, and torn apart

And when it's time to feed them,
Before they go to bed,
I give them my confessions,
Baked within their bread

Little donkey is getting restless,
Getting heavier as it grows
And the jackal, spoiled and spiteful,
Keeps biting at my nose

Little donkey is getting restless,
Getting heavier as it grows
And the jackal, spoiled and spiteful,
Keeps biting at my nose

i was thinking its a metaphor for two parts of her that prevents her from having proper relationships with other. the jackal being pridful and the donkey being emotional, simply because they are a apart of her she holds on to them and they grow more on her insecurity...or something like that

There is no doubt in my mind that this song is about personality flaws that she is incapable or unwilling to get rid of or improve. She embraces them in her own moments, but realizes in doing so she is banishing the future she could have. She loves feeding them with her issues and problems, they get bigger and bigger and she is trapped by them, but feels comforted in their existence. she is used to them, and in that she loves them.

I think it may be 'they come from in my lungs'

as she is singing/talking about them. they're metaphorical, not real.

x

Ha! Oh my! Its "they come from in my heart" "loins" nor "lungs" rhymys with "apart"

I think this song is all about guilt and shame, and how she feels trapped by it

The animals are simply metaphors for two immovable negative personalities which affect her attitude with relationships. The jackal is her fiery, unruly self who can't settle down and likes to wander through options whereas the donkey is willing and longs to but appears to be too shy.

And here I am again taking the song completely literally. That she is carrying the arguing animals around with her and even though she can't do much else becasue of them she feels responsible for them.

This song is amazing ! Someone knows the meaning of 'Kosh' ?? (I'm French and I didn't find it...)

methinks it is a cosh or weapon of sorts

As for the meaning of "kosh" all i can think of is that its a misspelling of "cosh" which is a blunt weapon which would make sense with the song.

Kosh

British English slang. It means to mug someone.

trin i think you almost ad the right idea but i personally think my explanation is more on track.

i think this song is actually about two of her friends perhaps (or two friends she once had lol) and both of these friends are weighing her down in some way perhaps because of their behavior towards other people. maybe the donkey is like a fat or low self esteem friend who doesn't like socializing and the jackal is a mouthy friend who gets her into a lot of trouble. And the reason she loves them so much is because their from her loins, but i don't think she means it literally, i believe this is her saying her friends feel like they are part of he which is the reason why she has the inability to separate with them.

nahh, i aree with tirin, it's about the flaws in her personality that make her unsuitable for relationships and family. and because of those flaws, she doesn't have many friends, so she loves and kinda needs the 'donkey' and the 'jackal' because she has no one else in her life.
